The new cloud-based service is called Propel, which gives a real-time view of how their business is performing, in areas including its cash position, trends in web traffic and how sales are correlated to the weather. Prices typically range from £350 per month for a small start-up with up to three employees, to £1,500 per month for a larger business with 15-25 employees Propel will work alongside market-leading providers of accounting to SMEs such as Sage and Receipt Bank, which removes the need for manual data entry of bills and receipts.

I have tried Uber in the US, UK and Brussels (before Belgium baned it). Evaluation in cities: same service as private taxi but far cheaper, so much better than traditional cabs (friendly, reliable, user experience, cheaper, ...). The tax and income debate is another story...

Dropbox spelled out the terms of the collaboration Tuesday on its blog. The blog posting said that the new capabilities will be available to all Dropbox users on iOS and Android in the next few weeks.

Here are a few of the features promised to users of the two joined services:

Users can edit Office files via the Dropbox mobile  app and sync changes across devices. They can also create a file at home and finish it on their phones, with any edits automatically saved to Dropbox.Users can access Dropbox files from the Office app and save new files to Dropbox. They can also sync docs without leaving the Office app.Users can share Dropbox links from Office, as well as share documents by sending a Dropbox link.

A British start-up, JustPark, which lets customers find and pay for unused parking spaces, has launched the world’s first application that lets drivers buy services from their Dashboard. BMW is one of JustPark’s biggest investors and helped develop the app, which will feature in BMW’s Mini cars from today. EY, the consultancy, expect revenues from connected cars to reach $25bn by 2025.

Billionaire investor Tim Draper who funds entrepreneurship classes for nine year olds has emerged as the mystery buyer of about $18m of Bitcoins. Supporters of the virtual currency believe it could become a viable alternative to fiat currencies or shake up the expensive and slow international payments system.

Tim Draper is the founder of the Silicon Valley venture capital group Draper Fisher Jurvetson (an earlier backer of companies including Hotmail, Baidu and Tesla Motors). His private initiatives to promote entrepreneurship include the Draper University of Heroes in Silicon Valley.

Bessemer’s BVP Cloud Index is based on 44 Publicly Traded Cloud Companies (only the ones whose activity is 100% cloud). The index fell from 193% in Dec 2015 (base 100% in Jan 2011) to 84% February 5th, with LinkedIn, Tableau and Qlik leading the fall. The BVP Cloud index is now up again in the 125%; Salesforce, higher than expected results, were key to the rise as it is by far the highest marketcap of the index.

Rowe Price, and Wellington Management run or advise mutual funds that own shares in at least 40 closely held startups valued at $1 billion or more apiece. WSJ analysis shows that for 13 of the startups, at least one mutual-fund firm values its investment at less than what it paid.

Barcelona is a great place to live which makes it a good place to attract talent. Startups like Bidaway, Goldema Soultions, Neuroelectrics, Pravilia and Softonic are good examples of successes.

It is also a great tourist destination which makes it a good choice for a start-up focused on travel (Atrapolo) as many industry providers have headquarters in the city.

Funding is definitely an issue in the city to make start-up companies global leaders.

Cloudera has raised $900m in a private share sale y Intel, T Rowe Price and others not disclosed.

The money for Cloudera – along with a $100m investment last week in rival Hortonworks – highlights the widening investor interest in Hadoop. Developed by Yahoo to handle huge volumes of information collected online Hadoop suitability for storing and managing vast amounts of information makes it ideal for the big data wave that has hit many companies. A third start-up, MapR, is also racing to stake out part of the Hadoop market, while IBM and Pivotal, a company partly owned by EMC and General Electric, have launched their own versions of the technology.

The likes of Oracle, SAP and Microsoft will eventually have to join the market.
