People Marketing: How I Learned To Love People - Curagami | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

People Marketing shares hard won tips, ideas and stories about loving, curating, listening to your people to create winning online marketing.

We included this link in our Startups Revoluiton Scoop.it because startups are so WIDGET focused they forget PEOPLE provide the context and emotional connection needed to SELL. It is understandable that YOU love your widget, but your customers love THEMSELVES much more.

Creating "like me" moments mean your "product" becomes a movement your customers want to join. This journey from YOU and THEM (customers) to WE is the most important journey every website and all marketing is on whether the creators know it or not.

* Engine Phase - putting in less to get more out.

* Return as Creator - informed by Big Data and able to make "community based" bets.

Dragon Egg Hunt Contest on Moon-Audio.com IS Content Gamification

Dragon Egg Hunt Contest on Moon-Audio.com IS Content Gamification  | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

What Is Content Gamification?

"Content gamification, what is that?" Every Curagami customer asks that question. We stammer, twitch and try to explain content as a GAME. No one gets it.

Thankfully talented friends at Moon-Audio.com have SHOWN what content gamification is with their Dragon Egg Hunt Contest. Moon-Audio.com is the home of Silver, Black and Blue Dragon audio cables.

The backstory is one of their Dragons laid eggs they can't find. You, Dragon Egg Hunter and website visitor, are asked to help find the missing Dragon Eggs.

TOO GOOD! Contest is blowing up and now when people ask what is content gamification we can ask them a question, "Have you ever hunted for dragon eggs online?"

In the meantime we are going to go play with a dragon :).M

Community In A Box - Curagami

Community In A Box - Curagami | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Community In A Box
Community In A Box is about the only marketing left - friends of friends proxy marketing.

Online only has one time – NOW.

Now is GOLIATH, a monster sure to kill us all except for a tiny DAVID slinging rocks at the future. David, undeterred by the monster’s apparent size or formidability, is unimpressed by yesterday’s victories. Yesterday’s victories mean little when a stone hits you in the face today.

Better to die on our feet slinging stones than live on knees comatose with yesterday’s victories or afraid of tomorrow’s insults. Tomorrow’s insults are inevitable. We are dreamers, dreamers who believe monsters fall to slingshots and stones. Our dream, our romantic vision, philosophy and belief is why
we’re creating “Community In A Box”.

Blogging & Content Curation
Does Blogging Matter looks at the dissonance between the way we create content (bell curve) and the way content marketing is consumed (power distribution).

This Curagami post shares the natural friction between how we need to create content (in order to learn) and market pressures to improve at a supernatural rate. Content curation is how we bridge the content marketing gap.

Startups: Why Adding Scoopit Magazines Is Great Content Marketing

Startups: Why Adding Scoopit Magazines Is Great Content Marketing | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Adding Scoopit Magazines
This post shares the easy how and why of adding @Scoop.it "magazines" to your blog or websties. We work with and around a lot of startups. Every startup is so widget focused they have a hard time creating the content marketing needed.

Why is content marketing so NEEDED for startups? Well let's see. Want to get funded? Want to scale? Content marketing can help, but virtually no startup thinks that way.

Every startup we know is so widget focused they can't see forest for trees. Widget focus isn't unimportant, but at some point soon you will need to sell that widget to someone for money. Content is the magic key in that "sell to someone for money" door.

The best return on any startup's content marketing time is to curate content - i.e. leverage brand relevant content from experts. When you don't have time or inclination to create great content you can get more reach and return from finding highly relevant sources (for your business content) and curating them.

Be sure to follow and contribute to those who you curate from too (or your curation can feel like stealing). This Curagami post explains how easy it is to curate content with Scoop.it and then add the magazines you create to your startup's blog or site.

Scoopit Republishing Study With SpyFu SEO Analysis

Scoopit Republishing Study With SpyFu SEO Analysis | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

SOne of the Lean Content best practices we’ve seen several speakers at our meetups recommend is to leverage existing audiences on top of your own to increase the reach and the impact of your content.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Scoop.it's Republishing Study
We loved the attached republishing study Scoop.it CEO Guillaume Decugis and his team shared. Since you need a tool to fully know SEO benefits we fired SpyFu up and took a look at Scoopit's blog.

Good News
The team is right. Their republishing post gained rank on keywords WITH TRAFFIC. "With traffic" is in all caps because adding in SEARCH DEMAND (of keywords) is where most content marketers trip up.

It is possible to KNOW exactly how many clicks Scoop.it gained and then estimate subscribe gains as we did in this public Google Sheets:

http://bit.ly/scoopit_republish_seo

YES, Scoop.it gained clicks from their republishing post (though not exactly from where they thought), and they weren't hurt by duping the content (at least not what we could see with this tool and the hour we had to riff the analysis).

Smaller Posts Daisy Chained
We eliminate any SEO dupe problems by breaking up posts into pieces and sharing on multiple platforms as we did with Why I'm Not An SEO:

Linkedin Post (part 2 of 3)
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-im-seo-martin-marty-smith

Why I'm Not A SEO (Personal blog part 1 of 3)
http://www.scenttrail.com/why-im-not-a-seo-triptych/

Why I'm Not A SEO (Curagami part 3 of 3)
http://www.curagami.com/magical-thinking/new-seo/why-im-not-a-seo-3/

Little extra work eliminates a concern that didn't impact Scoop.it's republishing post (as far as we can see) - duping content.

Brand Ideals, Jim Stengel, Mark Traphagen, SEO & Startups

Brand Ideals, Jim Stengel, Mark Traphagen, SEO & Startups | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Brand Ideals
Learning your company's "brand ideals" may be the most important branding work few startups accomplish. SEO and content take a backseat to widget development for most startups.

Yet isn't the most important question WHERE are the points of connection with potential customers and/or investors? The latter, investors, receive plenty of attention when they are easy. Investors want CONSUMERS and lots of 'em.

So the best way to connect with investors is to connect with consumers and the best way to connect with consumers is to know, articualte and share your "brand ideals":

 * Eliciting Joy: Activating experiences of happiness, wonder, and limitless possibility.
* Enabling Connection: Enhancing the ability of people to connect with each other and the world in meaningful ways.
* Inspiring Exploration: Helping people explore new horizons and new experiences.
* Evoking Pride: Giving people increased confidence, strength, security, and vitality.
* Impacting Society: Affecting society broadly, including by challenging the status quo and redefining categories.

Those "brand ideals" come from Grow: How Ideals Power Profits At The World's Largest Companies by Jim Stengel and is a must read for any startup entrepreneur who wants investors....after they've won the hearts and minds of consumers.
