Students need a personal connection to the material, whether that's through engaging them emotionally or connecting the new information with previously acquired knowledge (often one and the same). Without that, students may not only disengage and quickly forget, but they may also lose the motivation to try.

Understand & Design for Adult Learners:

1. Adults need to know why they need to learn something
2. Adults need to learn ‘experientially’
3. Adults approach learning as problem-solving
4. Adults learn best when the topic is of immediate value.

Using more of your brain is a good thing.

Kelly Christopherson's curator insight, September 13, 2014 3:29 PM

Simple and effective! I like the four different components, especially 3 and 4. We sometimes focus too much on 1 and 2. Making it "Real" is important as it helps to see how things will actually unfold. Making it "Satisfying" speaks to how we sometimes make plans that fulfill the "Get it done" category but do not fulfill the deeper connections.

Students love to play games, and games have the potential of teaching 21st century skills. This video discusses why games work and provides a look at a number of games and skills that they teach students. Key to this is the need for the teacher to help the students transfer the knowledge they are learning in the games to other areas. The video is short (under 5 minutes) and may provide you with some new information.

How to Email Multiple Attachments on iPhone and iPad - GottaBeMobile

How to Email Multiple Attachments on iPhone and iPad - GottaBeMobile | Stanner Tech | Scoop.it

"Sending attachments via email is practically second nature for most computer users. Create a set of documents that need to be distributed to your colleagues an off they go as attachments. On desktops and laptops its easy to send multiple attachments. On Android and Windows Phone devices you can also easily attach multiple files to an email. On the iPhone and the iPad, not so much.

In iOS, sending multiple attachments in an email is not something for the faint of heart. The word cumbersome gets new meaning when applied to this process. In fact, for those who like or need to quickly send multiple attachments on an iOS device the lack of an easy way to do this is enough to make you wonder where all the talk about iOS devices being used for business and the enterprise comes from."

Three Working Models to Integrate Technology in Your Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Three Working Models to Integrate Technology in Your Teaching ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Stanner Tech | Scoop.it

"Technology is obviously an essential element in our instructional toolkit. Knowing how and when and for what purposes to use this technology is much more important than the technology itself. Technology integration in instruction requires much more than just digital literacy and technical knowledge, it requires foresight, clear intentions, and well planned goals. The purpose is to meet students learning needs and as such technology is only a means to an end and not the end itself.

An important step in the process of effective integration of technology in education is having a pedagogical approach supported by a theoretical framework to ground your technology practices inside the classroom. Of course there are several frameworks to help you teach using technology but three approaches  in particular stand out from the rest. These are SAMR model, TPACK model, and Marslow model."
