There are 6 social media personality types who tend to share content with others. It pays to understand a bit of psychology and marketing in addition to the technical tools. Social media has no real boundaries.

 

Develop content for primary audiences; internal - behind a corporate firewall, or external - corporate customers, shareholders or the public. Expect content to migrate across boundaries and manage accordingly.

 

There are other things that factor into why social media is shared. Some are able to be controlled directly and others are good to be aware of. Read a book like Contagious http://jonahberger.com/
