Warm season grasses, as the name suggests, are lawn types which are most suited to the warmer and hotter regions. These grasses will always have runners, either above ground runners only, called stolons, or a combination of stolons and below ground runners called rhizomes. These grasses are not suitable for growing in colder climates, just as cool season grasses are not suited to growing in warmer climates. These categories of warm and cool season are for the reason to tell us where each type of lawn can be grown in its maximum suitability and health.
