Brandchannel - always branding. always on.
Darrin Donahoo's insight:

NBA and Pepsi insight:

The NBA used Kyrie Irvin the boost sales for Pepsi Max. This is very important because it serves as a double marketing strategy. The NBA gets one of the NBA stars in a video and Pepsi sales climb. If I owned a company like Pepsi I would use sports stars to market. Millions of people watch sports. By putting this video on my curated page to promote conversation about sports stars and commercials. The viral video has Kyrie playing the role of Uncle Drew. The bottom line is viral videos and memes are the next big thing.

Jacob Simons's curator insight, October 14, 2014 9:11 PM
This article talks about how children pickup on the marketing that is done in the NBA and NFL and buy into all of the products that are being marketed. This became an issue with the organizations because they were not necessarily marketing items that were healthy or beneficial when playing sports. This contradicts the idea of marketing for sport businesses because they are marketing products that they clearly have little to no association with such as McDonalds, Pepsi, and Taco Bell. I found this article interesting because big name athletes like Joe Flacco and Colin Kaepernick were helping advertise these unhealthy items even being such elite athletes. This is educational because we are informed that a sport that requires elite, fit, and healthy athletes is promoting unhealthy alternatives for eating and drinking. For example, the official soft drink of the NFL is Pepsi which is certainly not something that the athletes promoting it would drink often. This is the problem because children don’t understand that and they associate what they see on television with the athlete promoting it, making them want the soft drink. Another example is that sprite sponsors the NBA slam dunk contest every year. This will make me better in the sport management industry because it is important to know what to market and what not to market. As a result of the marketing directed towards unhealthy products, organizations such as the NFL have been promoting the NFL play 60 and telling children to get out and play 60 minutes a day. This is important because this is the right type of marketing that athletic associations should be directing towards youth and it is important to know which products should be advertised to different groups of people.

Darrin Donahoo's insight:

Eason has been in business for many years it has been the industry leader for over 30 years producing bats. I remember as a kid playing baseball we loved the aluminum bat made by Eason. The thought was the ball traveled further with an aluminum bat rather than the wooden bat. Eason had joined the memes revolution by marketing sports.

In conclusion Eason is still in business and still making sporting equipment such as, bats hockey sticks and aluminum bats.
