MLB commissioner Selig to resign

MLB commissioner Selig to resign | sports management | Scoop.it
Bud Selig, who took over the role of commissioner of Major League Baseball in 1992, is set to announce that next season will be his last in the role, Fox News confirms.
Thomas Harvey's insight:

MLB commissioner Bud Selig has said he is resigning. He started his job in 1992 he said he was going to retire in 04 and 06 but he finaly decides next season. He plans to continue helping the league until his term ends. He did not claify why he is retiring but he served the 2nd longest term in MLB commissioner history. Bud in most recognized for his battle agianst PEDs and biogenisis. I found it intresting that he decided to retire. I slected this article becasue Bud was a good commissioner and it is an end of a era. This can help in the field by seeing how replacing him happens and what the league thinks of his resignation.

EA Sports Settles Lawsuit With College Athletes - New York Times | sports management | Scoop.it
SB Nation
EA Sports Settles Lawsuit With College Athletes
New York Times
E.A.
Thomas Harvey's insight:

In this article players in the NCAA are upset with EA sports which is a video game company that makes games like college football and basketball. The players are also upset with licensing companies the players are upset that they make money off them and they do not see any of the profit. A former UCLA Bruins basketball player Ed O'Bannonfiled a lawsuit against EA sports. EA sports said that they would stop publishing the games in 2014 until they can come to terms with the players and universities. What was intresting was that EA would stop publishing the game and the NCAA was on the side of EA sports. This article was selected becasue so many things have came up about NCAA players being paid and they still are terminating the idea. This will help in the Sport Mangement field becasue this is sports politics and i find this intresting.

Should Coaches Be Required To Allow Parents Into School Sports Practices?

Should Coaches Be Required To Allow Parents Into School Sports Practices? | sports management | Scoop.it
That's the question being asked by a Florida school district, after a parent -- actually, a grandparent -- complained he couldn't watch his 13-year-old granddaughter's volleyball practices.
Thomas Harvey's insight:

Parents want to see there kids plat at practice. Coaches do not want parents attending practice. I personaly I belive parents should not be allowed to attend practice this is time for the coaches to teach there players and say and do things parents don’t need to see or here. If parents attended practices there would be a lot more complaining to athletic directors. It is interesting that they are considering letting this happen. I selected this article because I wanted to state my opinion about how parents should not be allowed at practice. This article can help you in the industry by representing either side in a lawsuit.

Brian McCann and Freddie Freeman were fined but not suspended. It is intresting that McCann and Freeman were in the brawl but they were not suspended. I selected this article becasue fighting in sports happens in sports a lot and the reprcusions could be extremly negative and how the orginizations deal with is and the league is intresting to me. This information can help in the field beacuse it gives ypu a feel for public relations and how the orginaztions deal with it.
