Men Behind Mayweather Vs. Canelo Discuss Boxing's Biggest Fight Ever | Sports Management | Scoop.it
Leonard Ellerbe and Richard Schaefer sit down to discuss promoting "The One," the business of Mayweather and the future of boxing.
Drew Sawyer's insight:

What I learned from this article was how important the men behind the scene are, the people who lead and who are in charge of promotions. When always seeing someone’s brand or slogan in this case Floyd Mayweather, as viewers we only see what he does on television. Often a lot of people forget about the promotion team especially Leonard Ellerbe the head of Mayweather Productions. The thing that I found most educational was how important a management team is to any athlete that is how they earn their money/name on how we would perform as managers or agents. I selected this article because the fight was happened recently and the title caught my eye. This information will help me in the sports management industry by keeping me humble and not worrying about being seen, just doing my job.

Jerry Rice: Big Data Is Changing the NFL Fan Experience & Players – Rise of Fantasy Football | SiliconANGLE

Jerry Rice: Big Data Is Changing the NFL Fan Experience & Players – Rise of Fantasy Football | SiliconANGLE | Sports Management | Scoop.it
Drew Sawyer's insight:

What I learned about this article was how important the fans are to every sport and the rise of the fantasy football league is bringing in more money for each sport. I found it interesting that the fantasy football league helps the NFL generate more views on the TV because a lot of the fans want to watch now because they have player on their fantasy team that they want to do well. Also another thing that I found interesting was how they are now using these fantasy football leagues to determine the stock of the NFL players in real life. I chose this article because it has to do with technology and how it has evolved over the years, meaning how it changed from just watching football on your television to actually being able to run your own team from your computer. This information will help me in the sports industry because it will help me bring spectators in, or be able to grab their attention even if it is for a moment.

Comeback Kid: Former NBA Player Jay Williams Becoming A Sports Business All-Star

Comeback Kid: Former NBA Player Jay Williams Becoming A Sports Business All-Star | Sports Management | Scoop.it
Following his NBA career, Jay Williams has parlayed his knowledge of basketball and business to become a successful sports business entrepreneur and broadcaster.
Drew Sawyer's insight:

What I learned from this article was how to bounce back from mistakes, do not dwell on them you learn from them. I found out that Jason Williams basketball success was cut short due to a fatal motorcycle accident early in his career but that did not stop him. He pursued a broadcasting career that started at the bottom but eventually built his resume up to where he is on the television regularly. I selected this article because I was able to relate to this, and thinking about when I wont be able to play basketball anymore and find a more secure job like Jason Williams did. This information will help me in the sports industry because later in this article it talks about how he will be starting his own sports business empire and how determination was a main factor.

Kenny Troutt founded
the most controversial,
most indulgent and most
successful youth basketball
team in America.
Drew Sawyer's insight:

From this article I some what learned the ins and outs of one of the most successful Teenage AAU basketball programs. What I found that was the most interesting was how he ran this as a business so that the kids can get the most exposure that they can. Even though he is a retired billionaire, he still instills a great work ethic in these soon to be young men. The reason why I selected this article was because this is something that I would like to do after I graduate from college. I would like to run my AAU program as efficient as this even though I do not have a billion dollars, and just to give kids the opportunity to have fun playing the game that they love like I did. This information will help me in the sports industry because it will teach me how to run a business just like the previous Manchester United article.

Manchester United have become the first sports club valued at over $3 billion. From a small(ish) city in the north west of England to global domination. What is the secret?
Drew Sawyer's insight:

What I learned from this article was, Manchester United’s soccer team is a very successful one, actually the most successful one around the country. The way they handle their business on the field and most definitely in the office ranks them at the top among their other competitors around the world. I found it interesting that a team who is so far ahead in the race compared to other teams continues to work hard. In my opinion from the outside looking in, as an organization they take no days off. The reason why I chose this article was because I wanted to focus on something in a different country because as a sports management major I would like to travel myself. This article will help me in the sports management industry because it talked about attracting fans, always looking ahead to the future, and running an organization that is a successful powerhouse.
