Yankees Luxury Tax Will Be Twice The Size Of Astros Payroll

Yankees Luxury Tax Will Be Twice The Size Of Astros Payroll | sports management | Scoop.it
The New York Yankees have a big incentive to make the playoffs: more revenue to help them pay their luxury tax. ST.
Brendan Griffiths's insight:

1. From this article I learned a lot about the way that the luxury tax and salary cap in major league baseball works. It has alwasy been something that has confused me a little bit about the sport however this article helped me understand the idea better. It also gave me some insight more specifically into the Yankees and Astros organization.

2. What I found interesting about this article is the desparity that you can find between one baseball team to the next. It's really mind boggling to think that a team like the astros can have a payroll equivalent to the luxury tax present in the yankees organization.

3. What forced me to select this article was really the title. Seeing a title like that really drew me in "Yankees Luxury Tax Will be Twice the Size of Astros Payroll". I am also a fan of the Yankees, being from New York so I was also interested to read an article that pertained to the Yankees.

4. This article will definitely help me in the sports management industry because of the amount of information that the article provides about the financial aspect of the baseball world. It will definitely be important if I would ever like to enter the proffesional baseball industry in the managerial staff or financial team.

Full line of Pepsi beverages to get NFL push - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | sports management | Scoop.it
Pepsi is mounting what it’s calling its biggest NFL marketing offensive yet. For the first time, the company will link America’s biggest sports property with all of its Pepsi-branded beverages — Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Pepsi Next and Diet Pepsi.
Brendan Griffiths's insight:

1. I learned that pepsi is launching an extensive and long advertising campaign in succesion with Bruno Mars' performance at halftime of the super bowl.

2. I found it interesting to find out that this type of ad campaign is one of the first of its kind. Normally the super bowl halftime performer is announced much later in the football season. Now that the performer has been announced the first weekend of the season pepsi can start to advertise heavily there products and use Bruno Mars as there spokesperson as well as incentive for people to get involved in the ad campaign.

3. I selected this article becauase right from the title it intrigued me. The super bowl halftime show has always been a huge production and such a crucial component of the super bowl experience. For that reason when I saw that pepsi was starting advertising coinciding with the super bowl halftime show I wanted to learn more about it.

4. This information will help me in the sport management industry because it gives me a small insight into some sports marketing aspects. It also give mes insight into the world of corporate sponsors, how to advertise and many other asepcts.

Brendan Griffiths's insight:

1. I learned that The United States Mens soccer team will now make millions of dollars in revenue for making the world cup. They will earn a $12.5 million dollar payout for just making the tournament, plus any revenue made from the sponsors.

2. I found it very interesting that teams get huge bonuses just for making the world cup tournament. The article went on to mention that if the team advances from the group stage and into the quarterfinals that money is doubled to $25 million dollar payout. That means a lot of money that can be put back into the U.S. Soccer federation, as well as youth soccer around the nation.

3. I selected this article because soccer is my passion. I am a big fan of soccer and especially the united states national team. So when I saw this article I was naturally drawn towards reading it and finding more information about it. I am also very excited to see the world cup next summer so the combination of the two drew me to this article.

4. This article will help me in the sport management industry because it gives me a bit of an insight to the way the international soccer world works, more specifically the world cup. It also gives me some more information on the united states soccer program and how it works which would be a dream of mine to work for the united states soccer program.
