How Concussions In The NFL Will Make Fights In The NHL Stop

How Concussions In The NFL Will Make Fights In The NHL Stop | Sports Management Articles 3 | Scoop.it

"Flash-forward a few seasons in the NHL from now. Fights in the game will become less likely if the league looks at the concussion issue in the NFL."

By reading this article I learned that the injury statistics of the NFL are having large effects on the rules of the NHL. The rates of concussions have grown in the NFL over the seasons due to rough contact. With the attempt of preventing these injuries, the NHL is beginning to put restrictions on the violence and fighting terms in the league.

I found it interesting how drastic the punishment is for fighting in the NHL. Fighting for years in the NHL has always resulted in a penalty. The article stated that punishments could eventually increase. It is said that players who fight will be ejected from the game. Depending on how bad the fight was, players involved could face suspension and fines.

I selected this article, because I love hockey, and frequently view NHL games. I enjoy learning more about the league and changes being made within organizations. It is important to me to keep up with the latest news and updates that are happening in the league. I also hope to be a sports broadcaster, so when speaking the game it is an important factor to know what is happening in the NHL and all the rules.

This information will greatly help me in sport management. I hope to work for a team or the NHL or an NHL team. To work in the NHL it is important to know the rules and frequent changes in the league. I even hope to coach a hockey team one day, so it would be important to know the rules.

"After last-year's lockout, the 2013-24 season is in many ways a fresh start for the NHL. With a 10-year collective bargaining agreement in place, the future is bright for the fastest sport on two legs."

From reading this article I learned what the new alignment of NHL conferences will bring for the future of the NHL. Sources say that they expect over one billion dollars in cumulative revenue for the next three upcoming seasons. The updated league has also brought new events, including more outdoor hockey games, like the Winter Classic. There is also rises in ticket prices.

I found it interesting how much ticket prices have risen over the seasons. For some teams the average ticket price has increased by over 50% since the previous season. Along with ticket prices, there is the purchase of merchandise that also has been increasing for the NHL and its teams. It is found that season ticket holders benefit most from the price increase.

I selected this article, because I enjoy the NHL. Hockey is my one and only hobby, so articles and updates on the sport greatly interest me. I enjoy learning about everything new that is happening with the league. It will also benefit me to know about the increase in prices for when I purchase tickets for the upcoming seasons.

I chose this article because I hope to find myself working in the NHL. Whether it is the front office of the organization, or for any team, I want a career around hockey in the professional atmosphere. Women's College Sports Apparel Sales See Triple-Digit Growth

Women's College Sports Apparel Sales See Triple-Digit Growth | Sports Management Articles 3 | Scoop.it

"To say that the business of college sports is huge, would be an understatement.  From television contracts to ticket sales, the amount of money that funnels through the economy as a result of college sports is astronomical.  One of the greatest segments..."

After reading this article I learned about the growing rate for the purchasing of college apparel and products across the United States. As numbers for revenue continue to grow for all sports and colleges, the number for female athletics are reaching record heights. It is said that the numbers have grown fifty three percent in the past three years. Along with the increase in revenue, the fan base is growing and reaching rates similar to men’s sports.

Information that I found interesting was that basically all of the total revenue earned by a college is based off of money earned by athletics and their apparel and products. The article stated that almost five billion dollars of the total revenue are due to the selling of college athletic products and other merchandise. Most schools function by the revenue that is earned by the products that are sold.

I chose this article because I love to see women being appreciated in the sport industry. Every day women continue to make new strides and accomplishments, and it is exciting to see that they are growing in athletics. Research and companies stated that women could eventually have the highest attendance for college level sport and beat out men’s athletics.

This information will help me in sport management, because it will help to understand how to judge the market of athletics. I would do this if I worked toward a career for sport marketing. With a major in sport management I could find myself with a job in the athletic department of a college. If so, it would benefit me to know the revenue that is earned from the things such as tickets, events, and merchandise.
