Unethical behavior for sure.

matthew hartley's curator insight, August 18, 2013 3:29 PM

This is a great example of a horrible coach and person with no professional ethics.

Manuel Barnett's curator insight, May 18, 2014 10:45 PM

Professionalism at all times as a coach is must. Parents are trusting you with their children be them boys or girls, and they expect nothing but the utmost professionalism at all times. This is a prime example of where ethics on both the personal and professional level failed.

Tim Spring's curator insight, September 9, 2013 3:03 PM

It should be the main role. Ethics should trump winning at all costs, but we all know that is just not the way it is.

Kelly Poggensee-Wei's curator insight, October 13, 2013 12:43 PM

Ethics plays a strong role in the world of sports. Someone with a good code of ethics is fair, respectful, has integrity, and responsible. It goes along with leadership because when you are someone that is in charge and setting an example for others it's important to set a precedent for what is right from wrong. When I'm working in sports when I get out of college I want to be someone who believes in doing the right thing no matter what the situation might be.

Legal and Ethical Responsibilities of a Coach

How many career options can provide the excitement, challenges and satisfaction of coaching? Coaches at all levels experience the pleasure of watching young people develop sport skills and contribute to successful teams. However, coaches also have important legal and ethical obligations to their schools and their athletes. Many of these obligations or responsibilities are natural extensions of the mission and goals of the high school athletic program. Others are defined legally or are expectations of society for a “teacher” in a school activity.

Jason Cain

Coaches must adhere to legal and ethical responsibilities within the profession. These responsibilities are outlined through certification classes. All coaches must keep athletes safe both physically and emotionally and these standard that they must follow are outlined in the National Association for Sport Physical Education. A coach needs to be a role model for athletes under his or her care.

Renee Seruntine's curator insight, May 14, 2014 3:53 PM

Legal and ethical obligations play an important role in how a coach will teach his or her players.

Dillon Fury's curator insight, September 10, 2014 12:44 PM

There's a lot of weight resting on the shoulders of a coach. They are to make good ethical decisions for their players and themselves.

All coaches should be aware of how to safeguard themselves from situations that might put them at risk of unwarranted accusations. Good article

Jason Cain's curator insight, March 16, 2014 12:46 PM

Athletes are influenced very easily by their coaches. There is a thing line that a coach must not cross when working with individuals especially with athletes of the opposite sex. Texting individuals has become a code of ethics concern when texting involves just one individual. I feel that group text that involve practice or games concerns should be fine.

Adam Odell's curator insight, July 20, 2014 3:10 PM

Coaches should maintain a professional level with all individuals of the team.
