USA TODAY Sports investigation: Holes in stadium security

USA TODAY Sports investigation: Holes in stadium security | sports facility management | Scoop.it
To prevent another terrorist attack, stadiums and entertainment venues across the nation routinely rely on low-paid, part-time security guards with spotty training and even criminal convictions.
Pablo Sifuentes's insight:

Security at sport events can prevent a lot of terrible attacks in a stadium. After the historical attack on September 11, 2001, sport stadiums have had to increase their security and procedures to keep the stadium safe.

Pablo Sifuentes's insight:

In this case, a fan was yelling insulting slurs to the pitcher, Castillo. The fan was drunk at the time he was yelling so what he was yelling was very disrespectful and most likely would not have been as belligerent if he was sober. The reason the fan was drunk was because he was served more beers than the stadium policy allowed due to being friends with the server. Due to not following the stadium's drinking policy, the stadium had a very bad day.

Pablo Sifuentes's insight:

It is important for a sport facility to be insured. Whether it is a regular day or a busy day due to an event, insurance is a key in a successful business. A lot of the time at a professional basketball game, if a person makes a half court shot, that person will be awarded a brand new car. Since the owners of the basketball arena do not expect the person to make the shot, they do not have the money in hand to pay for the car but if the person makes the shot and the basketball organization has insurance to cover the cost, the insurance provider will pay for the car if proof in a video of the shot being scored is provided. For the most part, insurance is purchased for insurance against lawsuits.

Lakers Riot 2010 - Unlawful Revelers - YouTube

A night of rioting on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles after the Lakers 2010 NBA win against the Boston Celtics.
Pablo Sifuentes's insight:

Sport facilities that win a championship for their city need to be prepared for disaster parties that break out in the streets surrounding the arena. This may require all the reserve police officers to be called to active duty for that evening or even calling the national guard. Acts like this happen all time time in huge games but for some reason the city is just not as prepared as they should be when the game ends.

Pablo Sifuentes's insight:

First aid, CPR and AED certificates should all be possesed by sport facility employees. Incidents never advice anyone in time, they just happen. In sport events, the attendace can easily reach over 50,000. That is a large amount of people that will be cheering and eating and drinking at the same time. Choking is not an uncommon incident so it is bound to happen at a sport event and if all employees are certified in first aid, the person in trouble can have the food stuck in his throat forced out by someone performing abdominal and back thrusts on him.
