AT&T’s Welcome for Freshman Calif. Lawmakers: Luxury Suite Time at Sacramento Sports Venue | Stop the Cap! | Sports Facility Management.4473521 | Scoop.it

The ballots counted and the winners declared, newly elected members of the California State Assembly could have paused a few days to pen thank you notes or call supporters. Despite an uncommonly grueling campaign, there was simply no time for that when some of America’s largest corporations come calling with trips and gifts worthy of the grand prize on a game show.

More than a few consoled themselves (for now) with something closer to home — wiling away several hours inside AT&T’s luxury suite watching a Kings game with a corporate lobbyist.

Welcome to the world of lobbying on the state level — where “oversight,” “accountability,” and “unseemly” are mere words in a dictionary.

After a historic independent, bipartisan panel redrew California’s electoral districts without the usual political gerrymandering, a number of new faces are headed to Sacramento to do the people’s business. That represents trouble for AT&T and other major corporate interests, who promptly flooded the freshman class with offers of free trips, luxury suites, golf outings, and other “educational opportunities.”

“‘Hey guys, line up and receive your gifts,’” Bob Stern, former chief counsel to the state Fair Political Practices Commission half-joked to a reporter for the Los Angeles Times.

Concession is probably the second best part of the ball park, if you are a person that loves their concessions then it is always good to know what is the preference or what ball parks are known for

Small article about some recent changes at NFL stadiums.  I had to go through this process when I went to the Braves game a couple of weeks ago.  Not a bad process when enough people are working the gate.

D'aundra's curator insight, June 26, 5:50 PM

Design for Ethiopia's New Stadium Blends Tradition With Modern Materials, Engineering

Design for Ethiopia's New Stadium Blends Tradition With Modern Materials, Engineering | Sports Facility Management.4473521 | Scoop.it

A consortium led by Australia’s LAVA has won an international competition to design a national stadium and sports village in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Its concept blends traditional Ethiopian architectural and construction practices with new technology to create a modern piece of infrastructure.

The team was selected by Ethiopia's Federal Sport Commission (FSC), which wants to replace the current 25,000-seat national stadium with a 60,000-seat stadium and related sports facilities. FSC wants to begin construction in 2014.

Traditional Ethiopian architecture includes examples of excavated historical structures, including ancient rock churches as well as dwellings and cisterns. The team's concept, which includes a sunken arena surrounded by grandstands formed from excavated material, captures elements of those traditional treatments in the stadium’s design...
