UAB sports subsidies from university decreased as student fees ...

For the first time in at least eight years, UAB's total subsidies for sports decreased. Less institutional funding was needed due to South Carolina and Ohio.

University of Alabama-Birmingham's total subsidies were decreased because of a combination of student fees increasing and income from the sports department.  Typically in college sports, when a team plays away games, they are compensated from the host university. This past year, UAB had scheduled games against schools that were offering compensation.  This is a good thing for the university and reflects well on the scheduling of the Athletic Department.
