Boxing Champ Adrien Broner on MMA: 'I really don't look at it as a ... | Sports Ethics: Vasquez, D | Scoop.it
Undefeated boxing champion Adrien Broner says he doesn't think MMA is a "real sport" because everyone can just learn it easily.
Dave Vasquez's insight:

The main reason for picking this article is this thought, if MMA is not a sport, than is it an ethical activity? Its okay to beat a man/woman and possibly break a limb but it is not ethical to fight on the street. How does putting the sport label on something make it ethical?

I chose this article because as a coach mental toughness is a very valuable asset. If you have a athlete that is the best athlete on the team and blows everyone away in practice but doesnt show up on game day, is it ethical to sit the athlete because he "chokes"?

Concussion experts gather in Santa Clara to talk about concussions in sports

University symposium that will examine the crisis of head trauma in sport.
Dave Vasquez's insight:

Concussions are a big hot button issue in the NFL, not only because concussions can ruin a career but how long did the NFL know about the damaging effects. If the NFL knew the about the damages was it ethical to keep it from the players who were making the league billions of dollars?
