All coaches should be aware of how to safeguard themselves from situations that might put them at risk of unwarranted accusations. Good article

Jason Cain's curator insight, March 16, 2014 12:46 PM

Athletes are influenced very easily by their coaches. There is a thing line that a coach must not cross when working with individuals especially with athletes of the opposite sex. Texting individuals has become a code of ethics concern when texting involves just one individual. I feel that group text that involve practice or games concerns should be fine.

Adam Odell's curator insight, July 20, 2014 3:10 PM

Coaches should maintain a professional level with all individuals of the team.

In his article, Coach Long brings up many good points on how ethics should be in youth sports. In his article he doesn't go to say winning is bad, but the way winning is glorified and taught is wrong. Long also points out how playing a game with no score does not make sense either, playing and teaching youth sports is a way to find a balance between winning, having fun, and teaching young athletes about sports in a healthy way. Allowing students to grow and learn life lessons through sports, and most importantly allowing them to learn to have fun. I really think Long did a fantastic job at helping coaches of young athletes get back to the basic ethics and good morals of what youth sports should be about.

This is a great article - as coaches we need to remember that we are role models and there are so many more important things that just winning.

Interesting enough that this occured over 10 and 11 year old sports. It is just eye opening that a coaches pressure is so intense that they feel they must lower themselves to this level in order to win a game. This happens in many cases involving sports. Coaches have a lot riding on if they have a winning season. Sports have turned from fun to WIN.

Sporting ethics is huge deal, you can get anybody to go out there and coach and yell and do ridiculous things and think that its okay because you have wins, but teams are looking for coaches that have good ethics because it just puts a better face on the team rather then someone who is getting in trouble for cheating and etc.

Gary M's curator insight, November 3, 2014 2:59 PM

Comparing, exchanging, and collaborating the standards of ethics within coaching internationally will give us all insight on how athletes or anyone at that matter is being treated, trained, and/or if there is any authority abuse going on by the coaches. - GARY M.
