Now that they have made these millions, what should they do with it to not end up broke and bankrupt?  A good article that breaks it all down.

Awesome article with insight about what the lesser known athletes have to deal with because they do not rake 7 figures in year round.

YEAR 11/12 HPE - FIGUEROAS FRAMEWORK (STRUCTURAL LEVEL)

Who gets the money? Did you know Usain Bolt gets 99% of his 24.2 Million a year from endorsements.....you'll be surprised with some others too.....

Aidan Shockley's curator insight, September 26, 2013 8:59 PM

This article taught me the true value of endorsments and how important they are in the sports industry, especially for the atheletes. Players only get a certain amount of years to play the game and continue to get paid, product endorsements is a way to continue the revenue stream. I found it interesting to learn that some of the most recognizable faces (Usain Bolt, Roger Federer, and David Beckham included) make a vast majority of their income from their endorsements. I selected this article because most atheletes do not get paid the rediculously large salaries superstars do and endorsments are thier largest form of income, as shown. This information will help me in the sport management industry by giving me a better understanding of how atheletes make a lot of their money.

Michael Brennan's insight:

Here is a severely underpaid sport yet these athletes continue to train and compete just as much and hard as those who get paid millions just to walk into the ring or onto the court.

YEAR 11 HPE - FIGUEROA'S FRAMEWORK (Individual to Cultrual to Interpersonal to Institutional to Structural) - some serious money involved here! Can you see a pattern? Spot the dominant sport? No surprises really...but could you have named the third top Basketball earner after Lebron and Kobe? Or even the Top Baseball earning pitcher??

Kelly Joey Seay's curator insight, September 14, 2014 7:42 PM

This is a major reason I feel that ethics has went down hill due to the importance of making more money.

Richardson, A. 's curator insight, November 16, 2014 9:06 PM

Money and epic salary and endorsement deals certainly has not enhanced and increased ethics in sports.  With millions of dollars to be earned or lost due to wins, contracts and endorsement money, athletes are playing for much more than the love of the game.  In the words of Jerry Maguire, "show me the money."

Mike Falvo's curator insight, January 19, 2015 4:29 AM

I don't think it has COMPLETELY ruined ethics in sports, but it is definitely a driving force in the decisions made on and off the "field" of sport.
