Being a Fitness Instructor or any type of coach, you might be faced with the ethical question of whether or not cheating in any way is acceptable. This has to do with personal cheating and group, consensus cheating. Cheating is something that is more common with sports and coaching, but if you were a Fitness Instructor or personal trainer of an athlete, you might be faced with this ethical dilemma at some point in time.

Yvonne Racey's insight:

There will always be an ethical choice to be made when faced with this issue.  Athletic trainers need to uphold their responsibility as a trainer by always advising against them and report any athlete that is using them.

Fitness Instructors always will have that ethical dilemma with performance enhancing drugs and their clients. Some clients might be training to be a body builder and be tempted by anabolic steroids, while other clients might be athletes that could be tempted by amphetamines. The correct decision for a Fitness Instructor is of course to keep their clients healthy and drug-free, but there will still be those temptations for both the Fitness Instructors and their clients with performance enhancing drugs.

Here's an interesting point of view: there are certain ethical boundaries that are crossed when it comes to fitness instructing and personal contact with clients. How much is too much? Where is the ethical line crossed?

This code of ethics is more specific to what Fitness Instructors need to follow and what they will be dealing with on a daily basis. Respect everyone, follow laws at all times, have high standards and provide excellent service, and avoid conflicts of interest with clients and other employees/bosses.
