This is a great article and a must read for Sports Psychology students! Pretty much summarizes why we are taking Sports Psychology and the importance the discipline holds for athletes to be successful at work and at home. Take a look at Geoff Miller's Intangibles: Big-League Stories and Strategies for Winning the Mental Game-In Baseball and in Life.

This is by far my favorite article. It is a must read! It brings to light fairly new technology called EEG training.

EEG sensors collect brain waves, which the software on the iPhone records. When it is finished, the app instantly gives an EEG assessment.

On the iPhone, this appears as a bar graph breaking down six categories: activation baseline, focus capacity, impulse control, focus endurance, max activation, and stress regulation. It shows the areas in which an individual needs work. Perhaps an individual had trouble focuses the software then has training exercises to work on improving one's focus. It is a lengthy article, but very informative and for someone like me who has difficulty focuses (I'm a day dreamer), I was interested the whole time!

Here's how Super Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan trains his brain

Here's how Super Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan trains his brain | Sports and Performance Psychology | Scoop.it

Matt Ryan's most important muscle is his brain.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback uses a TV-size device called NeuroTracker that he says has helped him sharpen his cognitive skills, providing an edge when he targets receivers or chooses plays. The focus has helped fuel an MVP-caliber season that culminates Sunday in the Super Bowl, where Ryan faces the New England Patriots juggernaut.

Ryan reportedly puts on a pair of 3D glasses at least three times a week and attempts to follow eight yellow spheres that move frantically across a screen. As he tries to keep tabs on them, NeuroTracker requires him to simultaneously concentrate on a tiny green dot in the middle of the screen. The goal: improved peripheral vision."

Spurs’ Leonard relishes responsibility of carrying heavy load

Spurs’ Leonard relishes responsibility of carrying heavy load | Sports and Performance Psychology | Scoop.it

NEW ORLEANS — Kawhi Leonard often looks spent after Spurs games. Slumped in a seat in front of his locker with his knees wrapped in ice, he silently eyes the stat sheet before mustering the energy to hoist his 6-foot-7, 225-pound frame upright for the trudge to the showers. At the offensive end, I guess our players get less minutes than other players at that position, so I don’t think he’s ever going to be worn out. … Fortunately for the Spurs, they’ve never been shortchanged by Leonard, who will make his second-straight start for the West in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.
