Ravens Star Ray Lewis Out For Season

Ravens Star Ray Lewis Out For Season | Sports and Football #1 | Scoop.it

BALTIMORE, Md. (CBSMiami) – The Baltimore Ravens confirmed Monday that future Hall of Fame middle linebacker Ray Lewis is out for the remainder of the season as a result of an arm injury he suffered Sunday.

The Ravens said an MRI showed Lewis completely tore his triceps, which will put him on the shelf for the rest of the season. It was the second major blow for the Ravens, who also lost cornerback Ladarius Webb for the rest of the season after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The bigger question that Lewis has to answer is how much longer he plans to play in the NFL. He’s 37-years-old and has repeatedly talked about life after football. He was drafted by the Ravens out of the University of Miami 17 years ago.

Lewis is already a likely first-ballot Hall of Famer without playing another down. His competitive fire has led the Ravens to unparalleled success, especially on the defensive side of the football...

Twitter Goes Bonkers After NFL Game's Unbelievable Ending

Twitter Goes Bonkers After NFL Game's Unbelievable Ending | Sports and Football #1 | Scoop.it
Players, media and fans react to one of the most controversial NFL endings in history.

A star San Francisco 49er’s name trending worldwide thanks to an apparently fake Twitter account spewing vitriol. Tidal waves of tweeted hate dumping on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Fans flexing wit in snarky messages. Players sharing uncharacteristically candid thoughts.

These were just a few of the ways in which the sports Twittersphere blew up as seldom seen on Monday following the Green Bay Packers loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Twitter was so frothy because the game ended in seemingly unfathomable fashion and ignited long-simmering tension between fans, players and the league about a labor standoff between the NFL and its regular officials’ union.

To recap, here’s what happened:

After a last-second Hail Mary pass by Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson appeared to have been intercepted in the end zone by a Packers receiver, the replacement officials issued conflicting calls. One signaled a touchdown for Seattle and the other an interception — and touchback — for Green Bay. After a review, the TD call was upheld, and Seattle won.

The replacement referees responsible for Monday night’s officiating fiasco were the result of a labor dispute between the NFL and the officials’ union. The preseason and first three weeks of the regular season have been refereed by the less-qualified replacements.

Immediately after the game, Twitter flew into a frenzy.
