You've probably noticed more runners the last few years with colorful tape running up their legs. This elastic sports tape--often called Kinesio tape, although Kinesio is one of many brands--is designed to lift the skin and allow better blood flow, which is said to increase muscular performance and allow better mobility in injured areas. Does it work?
Robbie Britton: Yiannis Kouros setting the world record for the 24-hour race in Adelaide in 1997, or maybe Paula Radcliffe's 2003 London Marathon – my own selections are mostly about time, not battles between rival runners
If you have the ever-popular office job that involves sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, it can wreak havoc on your precious body, creating tight hips and lower back pain. Many stretches for your hips also stretch out your lower back, so these
Shimano electrifies XTR! Shimano is pleased to announce the launch of the first electronic groupset for mountain biking, XTR Di2 (M9050). This development is the result of a very extensive testing program and is the moment many mountain bikers have long been waiting for. XTR Di2 comes in addition to the previously announced XTR M9000 mechanical groupset. The Di2 platform offers a number of advantages over a regular mechanical system including faster, more accurate and more powerful shifting which remains consistent in all riding conditions. Shifting requires minimal effort with a simple press of a button. XTR Di2 also brings a new programmable shifting layout called Synchro Shift. XTR Di2 offers a clean appearance on the bike and low maintenance thanks to the use of electrical wires.
Matt Fitzgerald explores why lack of flexibility can be a good thing for runners, as well why it's important to stretch.
Leonidas Athanasopoulos's insight:
Some good points in this article. But the author is underestimating the intensity factor in running. When a runner is doing high intensity interval training or weight strengthening, then some stretching is required. Because this kind of exercise is not exactly natural and may impose more pressure to joints, muscles and tendons than simple running.
My routine involves 3 times per week stretching, no matter what! And when I am doing intervals or weight lifting, then stretching is also included in the protocol, especially at the recovery part.
Extremes are not good. Poor flexibility or lots of flexibility are extremes.
