Sony certainly thinks so. Shudei Yoshida tells us more about its indie vision
Juliana Loh's insight:

The rising trend and appreciation of indie games is reverberating among the top brass when it comes to the war over console games.
" According to PlayStation, which has signed up and funded multiple games from small studios for its platforms, a growing range of teams from small studios are helping differentiate the competing consoles."

That Game Company's 2010 indie sucess story: JOURNEY in particular has been heralded by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide studios head Shuhei Yoshida as a good example proving "that consoles can cultivate off-beat ideas – and that that in turn they can grow the audience for video games."

My two favourite games that I share with everyone I know is: JOURNEY + PORTAL. Journey is visceral and emotive while Portal is fun and strategic. Both do not rely on wads of instruction and are easy to play from the get-go. Focusing on the game "Journey", Dr. Christy Dena's article provides an analysis of why/what triggers influcence audience emotion/behaviour amid gameplay. Her description offers a solid understanding of how visual cues and trigger point integration affects and influences our experience.

10k to a select few film makers? It may not be enough for the rest but it's definitely a good decision in the right direction and will serve to strengthen VIMEO's position vis-a-vis Youtube.

Pretty amazing:

'Vimeo is debuting its own take of film funding at the Toronto International Film Festival this week: Film makers whose feature-length movies premiere at the festival can get a $10,000 advance if they agree to distribute their films throughVimeo On Demand, the site’s paid streaming offering that launched at SXSW earlier this year.

Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor told me during a recent interview that he sees this as a first test for what could one day become a bigger funding program for independent filmmakers, adding: “Film festivals seem like a logical place to start...'

Kevin Spacey urges TV channels to give control to viewers

Juliana Loh's insight:

Some excerpts I enjoyed:

1. Take a bite out of piracy: "Give people what they want when they want it  in the form that they wanted at a reasonable price and they'll more likely pay for it than steal it:

2. Any differientation between film/tv and internet will fall away. The distinction will blur because conventions surrounding traditional ways of interacting will fall away. It's already happening now.

3. There is such a HUNGER for new content.  Whether we 'binge' on it or share it, or pirate it... the trend is HERE to stay and it's the one thing that studios HAVE to start recognizing NOW.  It is imperative to create environments conducive to nurturing creativity. Or else... the film world as we know will disintergrate in 'network' paralysis.

Alexis Niki's curator insight, August 30, 2013 4:30 AM

The heart of Kevin Spacey's argument: "The audience has spoken. They want stories. They're dying for them. They're waiting for us to give them the right thing. And they will talk about it, binge on it, carry it with them on the bus and to the hairdresser, force it on their friends. Tweet, blog, facebook, make fan pages, silly GIFs and god know what else about it. Engage with it with a passion and an intensity that a blockbuster movie could only dream of. And all we have to do is give it to them."

Admit it--haven't you done these things yourself?

Zed.TO Case Study. How to Start a Content Revolution…Design the Future & End the World « TMCResourceKit #transmedia | "Chasing Cyborgs" -Digital Trends, Tools, Usability & Story-telling Secrets | Scoop.it

An extended Case Study of The Mission Business’ 2012 transmedia production of Zed.TO & the invention of the biotech company, ByoLogyc.

What we find of value & groundbreaking in this project is that The Mission Business designed a strategy to bring non-theatre goers into ‘theater’ events, rolled in LARPing in a way that goes beyond what Punch Drunk has done (as audience members are predominantly voyeurs for a single event & not participants), used digital/analogue platforms to communicate with fans, ran an extremely effective social media campaign, a successful crowdsourcing campaign, & created a tiered ticket model scaled to levels of participation & exclusivity that generated a new & committed audience for an original serial theatre production.

Part 2 tracks The Mission Business’ spectacular staging of an end-of-the-world scenario accidentally triggered through ByoLogic’s ambition to redesign you
