My Club Français built an Eiffel Tower out of food on campus in honor of the Tower's birthday.  We used QR codes with hints to generate interest without revealing what we were doing. My students plastered them all over campus; during break, lunch, passing time - students were scanning like crazy.  Started the scans about two weeks before the build and made bulletin announcements to tell students/faculty to go find the QR codes.  We're getting ready to do it again this year...albeit a bit late for the anniversary of La Tour Eiffel.
