How to Disappear from the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC]

How to Disappear from the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC] | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

The amount of information available online has gotten out of hand. Everything about our lives, from where where we went to high school and what we ate for breakfast this morning, can be found on the internet. If you think that's bad, think about children growing up today – their entire lives, from infancy through middle school, are being documented by their parents on Facebook!

Privacy just doesn't exist online anymore; it can take drastic measures to delete ourselves from the internet, but here's a step-by-step guide for those who want to do so...

The more people reveal themselves on social media platforms, the more they will ultimately want to block others from seeing those interactions at some point. People do not want a permanent record of every tweet, status update or picture ever posted and they definitely don't want people who shouldn't be looking at them to look at them. But as this little infographic shows, it is very hard to get off the grid once you are ensnarled.

Millennials Rely On Social Media For News

Millennials Rely On Social Media For News | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it
Today's younger generation has a reputation of being glued to the cellphones and tablets. It's where they chat with their friends, find out the latest hot spots in town and, believe it or not, keep up with the world. In their own way, of course.

Probably not news to most of us (no pun intended), since it seems to me that millennials thrive on immediacy of news, and attribute well served by social media. The desire (or even recognition) for accuracy, or journalistic insight, appears to be less important. But maybe my perspective is influenced by my 17-year career at Reuters, where accuracy always took precedent over timeliness.

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, March 20, 4:17 AM

Savvy broadcast and media companies are putting more emphasis on social networks to keep the public informed.  Recent studies have shown that the "younger generation" will keep up with the news and public events if they are presented well on social media.  Even print outlets such as newspapers and magazines are publishing digital editions to appeal to younger audiences equipped with social media tools.  The communications future has arrived!  Aloha, Russ.

Why Putting Yourself in the Customer’s Shoes Doesn’t Work | Marketing Hub

Why Putting Yourself in the Customer’s Shoes Doesn’t Work | Marketing Hub | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

HBR: What kind of customer preferences did you focus on?

In one experiment we asked managers to develop a new car model and choose the features customers wanted. In another we had them decide on a new ad campaign for Rolex. In a third they were asked to set the price for a sandwich at a café. In every case, predictions about what customers wanted matched the managers’ personal preferences more closely when the managers had been primed to be more empathetic.

They were projecting?

Yes, even when the customers were totally different from themselves. In the sandwich experiment, for instance, the customers were students. Completely different people, but the managers still projected their own preferences onto them....

The Future of Digital Retail

The Future of Digital Retail | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

The next two years will bring about new behavioural realities of device connected retail environments. What sort of shopper habits will develop as new retail technologies become widespread and expected by the consumer? And most importantly, what can retailers actually do about it?

Yes, current retail environments (both on and offline) are data-rich and increasingly personalised. But culture hasn’t caught up yet. In the past, technological advances in retail have been defined by the friction they introduced to the shopping process, rather than convenience. Think of the current state of self-checkouts; theoretically timesaving, but in practice just an often-broken inconvenience. It hardly feels like progress.

But not for long. Retailers are growing savvy and sophisticated in their use of new technologies to improve customer experience (and their bottom line). As these realities take hold and culture adapts around new technological promise, entirely new consumer patterns and expectations will emerge....

Becoming customer centric isn't easy -and is much harder for companies who have a long history of working with their clients Face to Face. Retailers have a big challenge, they need to balence the high cost of real estate, manage a great on line website and train their staff on new ways to interact. Customer expecations continue to rise and keeping up with an engaging experience requires constant innovation.

SageRave's curator insight, March 7, 12:52 PM

Internet freelancers should not ignore these predictions, but they be careful about using predictions as their sole basis for client acquisition and retention. They are clues, revealing where freelancers might focus their efforts.

Elaine J Roberts, Ph.D.'s curator insight, March 9, 3:20 PM

Many of us already do a lot of shopping online; some of us shop online almost exclusively. A really powerful insight: "Handled clumsily, retailers who predict consumer preferences will be perceived as subverting customer choice. But retailers who use their predictive algorithms to create simplified choice for their customers, while maintaining a consumer’s ability to evaluate and make unilateral purchasing decisions, will thrive."

When approaching SEO for your site, keep in mind that you can never lose by creating a steady stream of high-quality content that provides true value to your readers. There is no “quick fix” when it comes to earning high rankings, and anything that seems to good to be true – probably is.

This post will walk you through five outdated strategies that may actually be killing your rankings:

1. Only adding short-form, thin content
2. Over-optimizing your internal links
3. Targeting a page for a single keyword
4. Spammy guest blogging
5. Ignoring the power of social media Read

Great article, all of the points are spot on!

I particularly like the fact that John mentions not using social media. There are so many ways that businesses and brands can benefit from by using social media, not only from an SEO point of view.

When it comes down to ranking highly in the search engines, I believe you should always go for quality. Some people try and take shortcuts or settle for thin crummy content that provides no value, and in most cases this only works for a short period of time.

Follow the tips on this page, go for quality!

Social media policy is being treated as a peripheral issue in strategy.

Is should be in the top 5.

Paul Roberts's curator insight, March 22, 4:56 AM

Can't just cut and paste other people's content anymore to maintain your SEO.  Got to create your own original, long form content like audio and video to bring people back to your site, keep them there longer and keep your SEO page ranking under Google's new algorithms.  Which is why so many businesses and sponsors use our station to create their own, episodic audio content.

How is it possible that in an age where data is as available as fast-food and Google knows you better than you do yourself, organizations still manage to create impersonal stories and dull content that nobody wants to interact with?

Research shows a growing number of people now access the Web solely through mobile devices. But according to a new report from Altimeter, most companies are behind the curve when it comes to creating mobile-only experiences.

Mobile on the Rise

Mobile usage has exploded in recent years. Adults now spend up to two hours per day on the mobile Web, the Content Standard previously reported. Once thought of as a “second screen” after the desktop, mobile is now becoming the first—and sometimes only—stop for users.

Altimeter reports one-third of shoppers use mobile exclusively, and over half view mobile as the most important resource during the decision process. All this activity has led to an increase in purchases via mobile, with mobile devices accounting for a quarter of all online purchases in November 2014....
