The one decision we all make constantly. Or why we must curate or die in 2015. | Scoop.it Blog | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

It’s interesting to see that content curation is evolving from an opportunity to a necessity as Julia McCoy from ExpressWriters recently noted in the Search Engine Journal explaining how we must curate content in 2015.

Why is that happening? Why is this accelerating?

As communication shifts from traditional methods (PR, advertising, old-style SEO…) to new ones (content marketing, inbound marketing, social media…), professionals and businesses can not only become their own media: they have to. This is something Brian Solis noted about brands a few years ago, as social networks started to become significant for content distribution, when he said they needed to become media to earn relevance. But today, this is not about brands anymore: social networks are not just significant, they are dominant. They became social media and they’re just the main way we receive and consume content. Even search evolved to reflect that and Google changed their algorithms in a defensive way. Today, this about every company, big or small and whether you think of your business as a brand. Not just businesses but professionals too have to build their personal brands and show thought leadership through the content they publish. At Scoop.it, we like to summarize that by saying that:

You are the content you publish.

But another thing changed as well: after an initial period where we learned how to like, follow, subscribe or mark as spam, we, as content consumers, are regaining control. We have tools to filter the noise, we learn how to manage information overload. So in this new world of communication, professionals or companies who want to get heard need to consider this question:

Do people listen to you because they have to or because they want to?...

This is a cool post format - important content marketing terms with short explanations. The format has more editorial control than it appears because the writer is selecting the terms. I would probably arrange in order of priority. They arrange by alphabetical which makes all terms feel equal...they aren't :). M

This: The social network that’s gaining in popularity among journalists

This: The social network that’s gaining in popularity among journalists | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

The concept behind This is deceptively simple, and if you’re the kind of person it’s meant to appeal to its allure should be immediately obvious: It’s a link-sharing network where every user is only allowed to share one link per day. That’s it.

There are no bells and whistles. There isn’t even a mobile app yet. Yet in the past two months since its soft launch it’s quickly catapulted to the top of the list of sites I visit daily, and I’m not alone.

Some of the most prominent journalists in media, from The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates to Slate’s David Plotz to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, are among its early adopters, and thousands more are clamoring for invites once they become available.

Though the site wasn’t created to specifically service journalists, many of its earliest users work in media, most likely because the initial invites were sent out to Andrew Golis’s professional circle of friends and colleagues. And This also happens to solve a problem faced by the very people — journalists — who spend all their time staring at content feeds all day: media overload....

Once Upon A Time: Overwhelmed By Digital Marketing? Curagami Can Help | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

The New New Marketing
There was a time before the web when "digital marketing" was somethign you did with your fingers. Then everything changed. Change came fast and furious thanks to Moore's Law - Integrated circuit POWER goes up exponentially even as costs plummet.

Once our digital world got to a certain point, let's call that point X, acceleration accelerates. Mobile throws gasoline on the social fire and gets answered by social media marketing with rocket fuel on the fire.

The resulting explosion in a kingdom called BRANDING in a land far, far away once upon a time...

Why There Is A Curatti In Your Future - Curatti | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

Great conversations with Guillaume Decugis, Mark Schaefer, Phil Buckley, Mark Traphagen & others last week convince me there's a Curatti in our future.

Curatti is an example of the HuffPost, BuzzFeed, Mashable multi-author, multi-thread held together by content curation model. I've noted to own the conversaton is to own the traffic. This model is best way to "own the converation" today and that is why there is a Curatti in your future.
