5 Search Engine Optimization Trends For 2014 (Infographic) | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

A previous report from Forrester Research established Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as the most important source of targeted traffic business owners can have for their websites, with organic web search or natural search sitting at the top of traffic sources. SEO itself has always been somewhat of a barrier to entry for online success.

In other words, for a new person it’s so complex that it takes a long time to understand all the little things that search engines, Google specifically, are asking for. Time, capital, and energy are necessary to rank pages on the world’s most popular search engine.

Een nogal indrukwekkende lijst, maar waard om te bekijken.

All you need to do is follow that. I am amazed at how many small businesses think they can do it themselves.

They probably wish they could do all of this. ;)

Infographic: Google Penguin vs. Panda

Infographic: Google Penguin vs. Panda | SpisanieTO | Scoop.it

Keeping Google’s constant and ever-changing algorithm upgrades straight is no easy task even for the most capable SEO technicians and marketing gurus. A visual representation of Panda’s perturbations in timeline infographic form is helpful when trying to wrap one’s head around the rationale behind Google’s algorithm decisions.

Due to the extreme nature of Panda, Google actually went out of their way to assist users in improving their websites to rank highly once the dust had settled.

Frightening reputation aside, Panda only reinforced the importance of putting out top notch content that delivers value.

4 recommendations to improve your website's rank using Scoop.it

  1. Upgrade to Scoop.it's Business Plan so you can host your Topic Digests/Boards on your own domain or domains. Your own website won't get any SEO credit for your curation activities if your activity is on Scoop.it itself, as the free and Pro options are.

  2. Edit the titles, images and excerpts from the scoop. The company says edited content does better with search engines. (My guess is that edited content is less likely to be interpreted as duplicate content, which the engines would ignore.)

  3. Publish frequently. Search engines (and visitors) both prefer fresh content.

  4. Promote your page and your scoops on social media. This is likely to create backlinks to and comments on your pages, as well as resharing. Furthermore, search engines take social traffic into account when determining how to rank you pages.
