Apache OpenOffice, the Free and Open Source Productivity Suite
scott stringe's insight:
It is open source - so it is inherently going to be a superior package in my opinion. I have much experience with Propiritary vs OpenSource companies & products. That is a long story with many bruses, basicaly go OpenOsource everytime! This is because more minds have more ideas! Because Product Creation blends everyone's knowledge and skills creating ("in the long run") a better experience for the users. Less restrictions and more features, plus they use world wide teams in development and the fixing of bugs. Much more efficient is this verse "the one stop shop"
Plus OpenSource does not go out of business laying everyone off, leaving customers needing to invest time and money rolling out a different software package. (research, product changover, training, etc. are issues faced in a situtation with no choice but to jump ship and swim :)
I personally comprehend more and get through subject matter much quicker viewing or hands on. I was in Plays book section here and can see the great resource that this is. (this is without exploring past the first titles and reviews of this section.) "I am confident there is treasure in them there hills".
