As a parent, there are no words to describe how deeply grateful you are for the talented and dedicated team of speech-language therapists that are working to enable your child to communicate and interact socially. They literally become part of your family as they help nurture and spur your child’s development.
My daughter was diagnosed with apraxia when she was 12 months old. It was a speech-language therapist that gently explained the value of introducing baby signs as a tool to enable my daughter to more effectively communicate while she worked on speech drills. I initially thought that signing would work against speech therapy, but instead, it greatly enhanced it. By the time my daughter was three, she had the speech skills of a 16 month old, yet she could effectively communicate anything with a sign vocabulary of over 300 words. I cannot imagine what our world would have been like without her having this tool.
Now 9 years old, my daughter’s articulation is age appropriate, and she is talking up a storm – engaging both children and adults in conversation. I will remember our early intervention team forever. Their patient perseverance became a life line to my family. They shared both our struggles and achievements.
We need to celebrate the everyday successes we have with our children. The Lingua Health SLP Clinical Success Award does just that. Enter today and share how you have helped make a difference in a child’s – in fact in an entire family’s – life.
