Embedded Academic Librarianship: A Review of the Literature

Most published accounts discuss librarians embedding content and ready access to services in an online course management system. A few notable cases describe the physical and cultural integration of librarians into the library user environs. Future research using valid quantitative methods is needed to explore the impact of large scale, customized, embedded programs.

Sue Osborne's curator insight, October 9, 2013 5:38 PM

Little by little embracing reinvention. With limited space and limited staff resources, doing what I can.  Schools are slightly different (esp K-12) in the praticalities, but the philosophy should be the same. To collaborate, to explore, to identify the new limits. First small step? Cancelling subs to newspapers nobody (except one library staffer) was reading, that were costing $35 per week.  Bringing in magazines that students are asking for, at a cost of about $60 per month - cheaper and more relevant - what more could I ask? Of course it's the thin end of a very BIG wedge, but one has to start somewhere!

Transitioning to the Embedded Librarian Model and Improving the Senior Capstone Business Strategy Course

Transitioning to the Embedded Librarian Model and Improving the Senior Capstone Business Strategy Course | Special Libraries | Scoop.it

Lin's curator insight, June 20, 2013 9:55 AM

"In collaboration with a strategy professor, a research librarian at a four-year SACS and AACSB-accredited Southern college transitioned from the one-time library instruction model to the role of an embedded librarian within a senior-level capstone course over a multi-year transition period. Through the use of multiple quantitative and qualitative assessment instruments, as well as anecdotal comments, and finally pre- and post-test student satisfaction and learning surveys, the library instruction and course requirements were revised. This course's implementation formed the basis of a campus-wide effort to embed librarians within on-campus and online/hybrid courses. Conclusions, discussion and areas for future research are included."
