Above is a Cathedral in Spain where the Catholics worship. Oe ver 77% of the religious people are Catholic. Freedom of religion is gauranteed in the spainish constitution except for some extreme religions. Most families spend around 2,000 euro for their childs first Holy Communion. Spain has many Historic Cathedrals they have gone down hill over the years and are in need of restoration. One of the cathedrals that are included in this catagory is one of the most important the Santiago de Compostela. Spain is in need of priest because on average 3,000 retire every year. The need is so urgent that they bring in priest from Latin America.

Currency and exchange rate

As of 2002 they use Euros instead of the old peseta. The euro is the only currency excepted in all of Spain. Although sometimes different places accept credit cards but a foreign credit card is not always reliable. Most places like to use cash/euros instead of the whole credit card thing it isn’t recommended to use on out of country. In the US $20 would be equivalent to around 15 euro. One US dollar equals 0.82€.

It is said to be around 505,957 sq. km. in area. Spain is the third largest country in Europe . Spain ’s borders are France , Morocco , Algeria , and Portugal .

Spain seems to be an educated country. Most people over the age of 15 can read and write. This includes 97.9% of their population. The Males percentage that can read is 98.7%. The Female percent that can read is 97.2%.Although here in the US we start learning how to read and write around the age of 4 or 5.

Spain is a democratic constitutional monarcy with National Parliament (Cortes Generals). Formed by the Congress of Deputies and the Senate which is elected every 4 years. Spain is divided into 17 regions and 2 autonomous communities, Cueta and Meillla.The powers between the communities differ.They each have their own parliament, government and administrative apparatus. Some of the major Parties are the Popular Party, Spanish Socialist Workers Party , Convergence and Union, and Basque National Party. The Prime Minister is Mariano Rajoy.

The leader of Spain is King Juan Carlos. He was born January 5,1938 in Rome, Italy. He has held his position as king since 1975. He entered into the thrown after Francisco Franco. King Juan went to military colleges, becoming an accomplished sailor and pilot. He gained a close bond with Franco, which is how he ended up being king when Franco died. The people thought that Carlos would continue Franco’s military friendly policies, but instead he transitioned to a modern parliamentary government.

The traditional color of the flag is red and yellow. In 1977, two years after Franco's death, the eagle on the flag was modified.The new Spanish flag has three horizontal band, with the national coat of arms on the hoist side of the yellow band. The shield includes the royal seal, which is flanked by two crowned pillars (the Pillars of Hercules) bearing the inscription Plus Ultra. According to Spanish legislation, the height of the coat of arms should measure two fifths of the flag's width.
