Andy Ho's comment, April 27, 2014 11:09 PM
The Indonesian industry has been growing healthy during the period from 2009-2013. It has been growing at a healthy average annual rate of 7% in real terms. Owing to high investment, the construction industry posted a review-period compound annual growth rate of 27.11%. Industry growth is expected to remain strong over the forecast period (2014–2018), as a result of the government’s focus on infrastructure and industrial construction, and the implementation of the multi-year Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia’s Economic Development. It launched this project in anticipation of attracting investment plans. It is highly probable that this plan will work because it would assess market growth potential at a micro-level with over 600 time-series data forecasts, and understand the latest industry and market trends The gov. is doing this to strengthen public-private partnership (PPP) regulations.

Malaysia to quit Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil grouping?

The Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA), which represents the private plantation companies, will decide at its council and exco meeting this Friday whether to quit the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) grouping.

AlterAsia's curator insight, March 4, 2014 5:38 PM

Should the MPOA, as the umbrella body of all plantations in the country, quit the RSPO, then it would be joining many of its counterparts from emerging economies. However, the individual planters may continue to be a part of the RSPO on their own accord.

For instance, Sime Darby, which is one of the largest plantation groups in the country, can continue to be a part of the RSPO to effectively penetrate the European market even if the MPOA opts out of the organisation.

Both Malaysia and Indonesia account for over 80% of CPO (Crude palm Oil) production globally.

“Now the RSPO is as good as the Trojan Horse of the WWF,” said a member of the MPOA, adding that the oil palm growers who had previously formed the majority of the RSPO have now become the minorities.

Twitter opens its data to researchers and academics with new Data Grants initiative

Twitter opens its data to researchers and academics with new Data Grants initiative | luxe and asia | Scoop.it

Twitter has been busy opening its data up to media — through a deal with CNN and Dataminr — and the music industry — via an agreement with 300 Entertainment — and now it is focusing on helping researchers and academics.

The company has announced the Twitter Data Grants initiative which it says will “give a handful of research institutions access to our public and historical data”. Users send over half a billion tweets per day, so there is all kinds of information that researchers may want to dig into, from health predictions and information, to global weather, seasonal culture (like Chinese New Year), public opinion on issues, etc.
