Studio Phi under head designer FoteiniSetaki works on Absorbing Echoes, an additive manufacturing and acoustics project enhancing healthy sound.

 

Rotterdam based designer Foteini Setaki leads the creative practice Studio Phi with additive manufacturing and acoustics for harmonious designs.

 

Her project, “Absorbing Echoes”, aims to enhance healthy sound experiences in various spaces by placing 3D printed objects in such a way as to script a setting. The ideal harmonic experience may manifest with the integration of geometric shapes meant to absorb and conduct according to individual environments.

Really good article that discusses,in detail, the various sound management options you can use to improve the acoustics in your home voice recording studio. He also explains why you shouldn't call it "sound-proofing," unless you work for NASA...

Some of you may find the second half of the article most interesting,like I did, because he goes over several free or cheap options that are commonly used, and talks about which ones work, and which don't — like, for instance, foam packing or the foam memory pads that some people top their mattresses with.

This site offers an expansive list of sound proofing materials and designs.

 

PROS: These are state of the art products that do an exceptional job of sound management. A studio composed of these products would surly give you that million-dollar studio sound.

 

CONS: They can be very expensive. Hanging up carpet remnants and egg crate foam may not achieve the million-dollar studio sound, but it will do a pretty good job for just a couple of hundred bucks.
