Hands-on with the new TouchEdit NLE for iPad by Scott Simmons (3 videos)

Hands-on with the new TouchEdit NLE for iPad by Scott Simmons (3 videos) | SOUND DESIGN AND SOUND ART | Scoop.it

A retro interface, lots of editing tools and the app's creator Dan Lebental answering some questions

"There’s a brand new iPad app that we’ve been following for some time that has finally made its way onto the app store. TouchEdit is a $50 app that comes from ACE editor Dan Lebentalwho is no stranger to editing as he cut a tiny feature film called Iron Man (among others). As soon as you read the description “Go Retro, Go Pro” off of TouchEdit’s website you might think you’re in for something a bit different. When you launch TouchEdit you immediately see that’s the case.

When TouchEdit says it is going retro, it certainly means it. What your eye will probably be drawn to are the mechanical looking things at the bottom of the screen. These are film rollers as TouchEdit is designed to resemble an old school flatbed film editor. This design decision will be immediately lost on many as the age of digital editing has rendered true film editing obsolete and even film students today might actually shoot real film but never physically cut it."

Visualising sound

Five top motion designers from around the world took the new logo design and visually interpreted it through a series of stunning idents. Make Make Studio, Alex Donne-Johnson (aka Vector Meldrew), Tim Borgmann, Nahuel Salcedo and Adrian Letechipia (akaRoark) were each briefed to visualise the notion of sound. The secret to storytelling is in the editing

The secret to storytelling is in the editing | SOUND DESIGN AND SOUND ART | Scoop.it

Presentation lessons abound in the cinematic arts. Many producers and directors will tell you that what can really make or break a film is the editing. You have probably never heard the names of even some of the most prominent Hollywood editors, even though their work is absolutely crucial to the success of your favorite films. This week I took some time to watch (twice) a documentary called The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Making. Although it is a film about the role of editing in filmmaking, the lessons and principles are applicable to other creative work such as writing, and storytelling of all kinds, including presentations.

MacRumors: ProCutX App to Streamline Final Cut Pro X Editing From Your iPad | SOUND DESIGN AND SOUND ART | Scoop.it

"Production company and Final Cut Pro X plug-in creator Pixel Film Studios has released a new app today that allows you to control Final Cut Pro X with your iPad.

The app is a virtual representation of high-end film editing consoles that some professional editors use for big budget Hollywood movies, which allow them to quickly and easily edit lots of footage without working with a mouse and keyboard, but is streamlined and optimized for both Final Cut Pro X and iPad."
