Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced the hiring of media firm Carat Global to take on the corporation’s media business.

The company was selected out of a pool of agencies that were pitching to partner with Sony ahead of the Playstation 4 launch later this year.

"All of the participating agencies presented outstanding approaches during the selection process," stated Sony America’s senior vice president of Playstation brand marketing Guy Longworth.

"Carat presented an innovative model that will drive significant marketing value to SCEA, and we look forward to partnering with them."

Carat Global replaces media company Deutsch LA, which earlier this month lost its creative agency contract with Sony to BBH New York as well.

"Deutsch has been an excellent partner for SCEA over the last six years, and we would like to thank them for their dedicated service to our business,” Longworth said.

The PS4 is planned to launch in at least one region this holiday season.

Playstation 4 News: Nvidia Sheds Light On Why Sony Chose AMD

Playstation 4 News: Nvidia Sheds Light On Why Sony Chose AMD | Sony for the Future! | Scoop.it
Terry Li's insight:

Although a big name like Nvidia was abandoned in the partnership with Sony that supplies their Gaming Console with graphic chips, Sony manages to get another Power House in graphic chips, AMD. It is said that Sony could not manage to get a deal with Nvidia as they did not agree to the terms set by Sony (the price was not ideal for Nvidia). Having completed a deal with AMD it is assumed that Sony was able to negotiate with them in terms of pricing. However in the end it is still a win for Sony as they have AMD partnered with them, also a BIG name if not bigger than Nvidia.

Partnerships could be beneficial to my business as it allows no weaknesses in my company. I have people with skill traits that I do not have. Also if the partnered with a big name, my company may also blow up due to the well known company I am partnered with.

Uncharted 4? Gran Turismo 6? Expect plenty of news at E3

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that every single one of its owned studios is working on PS4 software.

A surprise? Perhaps not, but there are implications to the news.

Firstly, it means that gamers can maybe expect less in the way of PS3 and PS Vita titles than they would have done otherwise. It also could mean that Vita titles such as Tearaway, which is in development at LittleBigPlanet dev Media Molecule, might take a little longer to materialise.

Secondly, and more excitingly, it points to some possibly exciting news in the near future. As IGN points out, are we correct to infer that Naughty Dog must therefore be working on Uncharted 4? And Polyphony Digital on Gran Turismo 6?

And what of the likes of Guerrilla Cambridge, Studio London, Sony Santa Monica and Sony San Diego?

Of course, we already have confirmation of three PS4 titles from Sony studios – Killzone: Shadow Fall from Guerrilla Games, DriveClub from Evolution Studio and InFamous: Second Gun from Sucker Punch.

If nothing else we can at least safely conclude one thing – E3 could be very big for Sony.
