WAZMO NARIZ LIVE FIRST TIME EVER ON THE WEB - "REFRIGERATOR SAGA" LIVE AT TUTS CHICAGO 31-12-1981

"Hey all - Jeff Boynton, Wazmo keyboardist here. I was fortunate to track down a 3/4" videotape of our final gig, New Year's Eve (1981/82) at Tuts in Chicago. Here we play "The Refrigerator Saga".

This is the first time ever we have had any live Wazmo footage, and the first live Wazmo footage on the web! Thank you Rob McClasky for providing this - nice shooting and audio sync too, Rob! This videotape has been in Rob's basement for 30 years. One more song coming soon!". Jeff Boynton.

Wazmo Nariz (born Larry Grennan in Chicago, Illinois) was a quirky new wave singer and songwriter. His first success came with an independent single, "Tele-tele-telephone" which was recorded and released on the independent Chicago label Fiction Records in 1978. The single was picked up and was one of Stiff Records' early releases in the UK. They released an EP the next year and I.R.S. Records founder Miles Copeland III signed Wazmo and his band to Illegal Records/I.R.S.

Wazmo Nariz - vocals

Jeff Boynton - keyboards

Jeff Hill - guitar

James E. McGreevey III - bass

Bruce Zeleznik - drums

Watch Eddie Vedder Play "Corduroy" Outside Wrigley Field With Some Random Buskers

Watch Eddie Vedder Play "Corduroy" Outside Wrigley Field With Some Random Buskers | SongsSmiths | Scoop.it

The guy in the shorts and the Cubs hat is no ordinary fan. Eddie Vedder stumbled onto a couple of street musicians after Friday night’s game at Wrigley Field and decided to join them for some impromptu Pearl Jam, er, jams. According to a report in ChiCity Sports via Rolling Stone, Vedder picked up a guitar and started playing Pearl Jam’s “Corduroy” with the drummer who was sitting there. From the look of the video, it appears most of the fans and other passersby didn’t realize that the guy in the shorts and the Cubs cap playing Pearl Jam songs was actually Eddie Vedder. And why would they?

THIS IS OUR MUSIC: Oasis - "Talk Tonight"

"Talk Tonight" is a song written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It was released as a B-Side on the UK #1 single "Some Might Say"along with "Acquiesce" and "Headshrinker" and appears on the B-side compilation album, The Masterplan. "Talk Tonight" is one of many acoustic B-side tracks sung by Noel, and was at the time, the most vulnerable song he had ever attempted. It was inspired by the near-breakup of the band in Los Angeles in autumn 1994, when Noel walked out without telling anyone and headed for San Francisco.

UNDER THE RADAR: Goat Girl - "Crow Cries"

London based indie outfit Goat Girl enjoyed a breakout year in 2016 with a debut single on Rough Trade and features in trendy music mags BEAT (including a cover) and So Young. You could be forgiven for thinking that their latest single ‘Crow Flies’ has a lot to live up to then, but with its lo-fi mash up of 60’s psychedelia and 80’s underground punk rock, this all female quartet are well up to the challenge.

THIS IS OUR MUSIC: Elvis Costello & The Attractions - "Accidents Will Happen"

Song from the album "Armed Forces", released 1979. "Elvis Says:“This album was originally to be called Emotional Fascism. Two or three half-formed notions collided uneasily in that title, although I never would have admitted to having anything as self-conscious as a ‘theme’ running through the songs. Any patterns that have emerged did so as the record was completed or with the benefit of hindsight. Personal and global matters are spoken about with the same vocabulary; maybe this was a mistake. Betrayal and murder are not the same thing. The first of them only deadens the soul. Some of the highly charged language may now seem a little naive; it is full of gimmicks and almost overpowers some songs with paradoxes and subverted clichés piling up into private and secret meanings. I was not quite 24 and thought I knew it all.”
