NEW VIDEO: SAINT MOTEL - "Benny Goodman" (Official Music Video)

NEW VIDEO: Saint Motel, the Los Angeles rock foursome, have released a feel-good video for “Benny Goodman,” a track from their debut full-length Voyeur.
The video features a charming performance from 7-year-old Miles “Baby Boogaloo” Brown while a group of stuffy-looking adults chat over dinner and cocktails.
Lead singer A/J Jackson directed the video, and fans might recognize another familiar face in Derrick Tuggle, who rose to viral-video fame in The Black Keys “Lonely Boy” video.

UNDER THE RADAR: The Horrors - "Machine"

The Horrors have released their first new track in three years. Called “Machine,” it was produced by Paul Epworth who has worked with Adele, FKA twigs, and Thurston Moore, and was recorded at the Church Studios. It’s a slow-builder that stomps along with the Horrors signature darkness. No word on an upcoming album but The Horrors will be playing a handful of dates in Europe, Japan, and Mexico. .pitchfork

UNDER THE RADAR: Sharon Van Etten - "Not Myself" (Hercules & Love Affair Remix)

Fresh from her feature on this week’s episode of “Twin Peaks,” Sharon Van Etten has shared a remix to a track she wrote and released last year in honor of the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, which happened one year ago yesterday. Titled “Not Myself,” Etten explained the reasoning for its release: “During the journey of making this song and finding the best way to share it with the world, a fellow musician recommended I reach out to someone to remix the song to share with the club community. In this way, a version can exist where even more people can connect to this song in a more positive and healing light.”

Lee Ranaldo announces new album, Electric Trim, shares video for “Circular (Right As Rain)”

Sonic Youth co-founder teams up with Steve Shelley, Sharon Van Etten, Nels Cline, and more. Later this summer, Lee Ranaldo will release a brand new album called Electric Trim. For the follow-up to 2013’s Last Night on Earth, the Sonic Youth co-founder has returned to his old label home of Mute Records. Electric Trim’s nine tracks were recorded in both New York City and Barcelona alongside producer Raül “Refree” Fernandez. Ranaldo’s longtime band The Dust — that’s former Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley, guitarist Alan Licht, and bassist Tim Luntzel — appear on the LP, as does longtime pal and collaborator Nels Cline of Wilco and Kid Millions. Sharon Van Etten also contributed extensively, singing on six different songs, including the duet “Last Looks”. Ahead of the album’s September 15th release date, Ranaldo has shared the winding lead single, “Circular (Right As Rain)”. It also comes with a music video comprised of footage from Ranaldo’s recording sessions.

UNDER THE RADAR: Deer Tick - "Sea of Clouds"

It’s been four years since Deer Tick released their last album, 2013’s Negativity. This fall, they’re set to make their return with not one but two brand new records. Eloquently entitled Deer Tick Vol. 1 and Deer Tick Vol. 2, the distinct efforts are due out September 15th on Partisan Records. Both albums were recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Each features 10 new tracks, meaning Deer Tick fans will be getting 20 new songs this fall. What’s more, the albums showcase different sides of the band, one softer and the other grittier. Vol. 1 will highlight the Rhode Island outfit’s acoustic folk rock side, harkening back to where they started on albums like their War Elephant debut. A press release says the 10-track effort highlights frontman John McCauley’s “masterful, introspective and observational” songwriting with songs that document “inner struggles and external conflicts with a perfect balance of heartfelt sincerity and wry wit.”

Arcade Fire Release New Single, "Creature Comfort"

Household indie rockers Arcade Fire have shared their latest single, “Creature Comfort.” The single is from the band’s forthcoming album, Everything Now, which is out on July 28 via Sony. The track is more reminiscent of Arcade Fire’s electronic leanings on 2013’s Reflektor, but Win Butler’s and Régine Chassagne’s angst-laden vocals distinguish it from the Reflektor era. The band also released a video to accompany the song. The video showcases the group performing in a dark room flashing with strobe lights (even Butler’s microphone has a light).

‘THE UNHEARD MUSIC’: THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENTARY ON LOS ANGELES PUNK LEGENDS X

The first thing you see when you watch W.T. Morgan’s 1986 documentary The Unheard Music about the difficult-to-Google Los Angeles punk band X is a caption reading “PLAY THIS MUSIC LOUD.” Always good advice, of course. Morgan worked on the documentary for five solid years while the band was at its peak, and The Unheard Music emerges as a darn good document.

THIS IS OUR MUSIC: Elvis Costello & The Attractions - "Radio, Radio"

"I wanna bite the hand that feeds me/I wanna bite that hand so badly," Elvis Costello sneered with a rage the bordered on Biblical wrath on "Radio Radio," though a large part of the point of the song was that the hand in question wasn't feeding him. Seeing himself (and most of his peers) being shut out by conservative state-controlled radio programming in England and even more conservative corporate FM play list factories (and payola-controlled program directors) in America, Costello was becoming a major artist in spite of radio, not because of it, and he called up his righteous wrath against those who were keeping interesting rock & roll off the airwaves. "Radio Radio" wasn't one of Costello's more subtle (or well-crafted) songs, but it was certainly among his most anthemic, and if he wanted to be known as a troublemaker, he could hardly have done better than to take on his own best hope at reaching the mass audience. The song gained greater infamy in 1977 prior to its American release, when Costello performed it on Saturday Night Live -- but without clearing it with the staff first, spontaneously leaping into the song after halting his scheduled performance of "Less Than Zero" after only a few seconds. (Costello parodied the event 22 years later, when on an SNL anniversary special, he interrupted the Beastie Boys in the midst of playing "Sabotage" to lead them in a cover of "Radio Radio").

UNDER THE RADAR: Chelsea Wolfe - "16 Psyche"

Chelsea Wolfe will return with a new album on September 22nd. Titled "Hiss Spun", it marks the gothic rocker’s sixth LP overall and the follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed Abyss. Joining Wolfe in the studio were a number of guest musicians, including guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age and Aaron Turner of Old Man Gloom. "Hiss Spun" is being previewed with lead single “16 Psyche”, a dark and savage number that sees Wolfe embracing more and more metal elements.

UNDER THE RADAR: BEACH HOUSE - "CHARIOT"

Beach House are releasing a compilation called B-Sides and Rarities, which features (you guessed it) previously unreleased B-sides and rarities on June 30 via Sub Pop. They shared a video for the track “Chariot,” which was self-directed by the band. The video depicts a movie theater audience watching stock footage prominently featuring former President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy, with a few appearances by Marilyn Monroe, while selected lyrics from the song occasionally flash beneath. The band explained the compilation in a statement, saying: “The idea for a B-sides record came when we realized just how many non-album songs had been made over the years, and how hard it was to find and hear many of them. This compilation contains every song we have ever made that does not exist on one of our records.”

UNDER THE RADAR: Aldous Harding - "Blend"

In Francis Ford Coppola’s classic Apocalypse Now, there’s a phantasmagorical, iconic scene where the movie’s soldiers suddenly find themselves out of the chaos of the jungle and at a USO show, where a trio of Playboy Playmates emerge from a helicopter and spend a few minutes dancing for the troops before a riot breaks out. In the new video for her song “Blend,” the New Zealand singer/songwriter Aldous Harding references that scene, dressing in the lead Playmates cowboy-bikini gear and doing the same sorts of herky-jerk go-go dances. The difference is that with the blank white background and the sparse beauty of Harding’s songs, the spectacle becomes even more eerie and unearthly. Charlotte Evans, who also helmed Harding’s “Imagining My Man” video, directs.

together PANGEA announce new album, Bulls and Roosters, share video for single “Better Find Out”

LA rockers with a quick, energized lead single. Los Angeles outfit together PANGEA have announced their return with a new album. Entitled Bulls and Roosters, the full-length effort follows 2015’s Tommy Stinson-produced The Phage EP. It’s set for an August 25th release via NETTWERK, and is today previewed by the lead single, “Better Find Out”. The track is a vibrant one-minute-forty-second slice of scratchy garage punk. It’s got just enough pop edge to keep them contenders for one of the best pop punk acts of all time, with a playful yet menacing undertone that reveals the frustration of the lyrics. .CoS
