K-pop Song Cover: SNSD's The Boys by Alika & AJ.theReal (Save As, YouTube)

Share your videos with friends, family, and the world
Digital Hallyu Studies's insight:

This cover of SNSD's "The Boys" has a slower tempo and different rhthymic phrasing than the original. For the intro, the cover substitutes the slightly electronicized voices of the original  with the two voices of Alika and A.J the Real over an electronic beat. Alika's feminine vocals, standing in for the multiple vocals of the original track, are complemented by A.J the Real's masculine vocals.  A.J also takes on the rap in the middle of the song. This is an interesting cover in that it uses both male and female vocals for a song originally sung by women. It is refreshing...some K-pop fans did not like "The Boys," perhaps in part because of the English version that was also released.
