"Google today announced the launch of its Transfer Appliance, a new hardware appliance and service for moving large amounts of data from corporate data centers to its cloud via FedEx. While Google already offered its users the ability to ship physical media like storage arrays, hard disks, tapes and USB flash drives to its data centers through third-party partners, the Transfer Appliance is quite a bit more sophisticated. The company also built its own hardware for this service, which can be used to ship anything from 100TB to 480TB to the cloud (and more if the data is easily compressible)."

"IDC has revealed public cloud infrastructure spending will grow almost 14% year-on-year in 2017, the biggest increase out of all cloud-based infrastructure. In total, cloud spending - covering server, enterprise storage and ethernet switches - will grow 12.4% over 2017, growing to a worth of $40.1 billion (£31 billion) over 12 months. Off-premise private clouds will grow 11.9% year-on-year, while on-premise clouds will grow the least out of all infrastructure spending, at 9.6% in 2017."

"Google has launched its cloud platform in Singapore, with plans to bring it to Mumbai and Sydney later this year. Google has switched on its cloud platform in Singapore, after experiencing 100 percent growth of paid customers in the region over the last 12 months. The search giant claims its Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customers in Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok have experienced 51 to 98 percent reductions in round-trip time latency, compared to its services delivered from Taiwan or Tokyo."

"Google has continued its Cloud Platform Asia-Pacific expansion with its first region in Australia. Across the Sydney location's three zones, GCP users will have access to Compute Engine, Container Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Dataproc, Cloud SQL, Cloud DNS, and Cloud VPN. Google is touting a 40 percent to 80 percent reduction in round trip latency for applications served out of the Sydney location, instead of Google's other Asian locations, for Australian and New Zealand users."
