janlgordon's curator insight, December 4, 2012 12:52 PM

This piece from Trendwatching contains some very valuable information about the future of business and how you can stay relevant by staying informed.

Here are some of the highlights that caught my attention:

Mega-trend of transparency in 2013?

**Brands  must move from 'having nothing to hide' to pro-actively showing and proving they have nothing to hide.

**The perfect storm of consumers' ever-greater lust for NEWISM and niches, the expectation of (instantly!) getting jut the right product, ongoing eco-concerns and the desire for more interesting stories will all combine with the spread of new local manufacturing technologies such as:

*3D-printing and make-on-demand, to trigger a resurgence in

domestic manufacturing in established markets in 2013

Mobile Moments

**in 2013, consumers will look to their mobile devices to maximize absolutely every moment, multi-if-not-hypertasking their experiences, purchases and communications...

Eco Trend for 2013

**Rather than being discarded or even recycled (by someone else), these products can be given back to nature to grow something new, with all the eco-status and eco-stories

How Google Determines Where to Rank Your Website [INFOGRAPHIC] | Solo Pro World | 21st Century Business | Scoop.it

"The key to getting more search traffic isn’t just about building more links or adding more content. It is also about understanding Google’s algorithm. And if you want to take it a level deeper, it really comes down to understanding people since Google’s goal is always to do what’s best for its users".

Undoubtedly there will always be misguided businesses trying to focus on the specific metrics in order to game ranking, the most telling and honest code to adhere to is this, '...it really comes down to understanding people since Google’s goal is always to do what’s best for its users,-Quicksprout'.

In other words:

1) Never get to comfortable / lax in your content, SEO and Social Media.
2) Serve your consumer not yourself.

3) White hat practices are a thing for a reason. (Very few villains make it into sequels.)

Quick recap on finding keyword phrases for which to create content.

  1. "List out all of the different products or services you have and then list out the benefits in short phrases for each product or service.
  2. Go to the Google Trends Tool and do a search and look for any type of seasonality, noting any months that these particular keyword phrases tend to peak.
  3. Go to the Google Keyword Tool and look for the search volume, targeting terms that specifically have at least 1,000 searches a day and PPC terms with high cost per click.
  4. Go to Google Analytics and check your website data to look for search queries people are using to find your pages. Pay attention to your most visited pages and how people are getting there internally as well as your call to action pages or your order pages. See how people are navigating the site or if they are getting there directly from outside sources.

Always keep in mind your buyer persona every single time and what are the people looking for when they are navigating your site"

Michael Kristiansen's curator insight, November 24, 2013 8:56 AM

These secrets are really 'open secrets', strategies you may have heard something about, but don't have the time or committment to dig into social media marketing activities.  It works with consistency, and takes the kind of effort most business people would have to delegate the activities and then oversee that it's being carried out successfully. The author uses making a snowball ever larger.  At some point the weight of all the activities accumulate and a tipping point occurs.  That's when online word of mouth (sharring) has reached your audience of enthusiasts.  To do these activities successfully, there must be high value content behind it all.  A business person selling tires wants to sell more and claim that the best tires and service is his/her business.  That's advertising.  Social media marketing looks at  what people are doing.  If it's going to the beach,  it's the fun experience of what they'll do there (with a little product placement).  There are many creative ways to tell a story that entertains, even educates, and the brand is associated in a way that people remember the brand because they liked the story.  A content marketing plan is about associating the brand with great storytelling, trending topics that are relevant.

Renaud Gagné's curator insight, November 26, 2013 11:03 AM

Really good stuff on how to create viral traffic to your content.
