Unfortunately, some of these women lack a sociological imagination. Others buy into the myth of feminism, ignorant of what the feminist movement has help create the world we have today.

Is Gender a social construct?  In this video, I attempt to explain both sides to the gender question- Who should we be protecting in our public restrooms?  Is Target the hero, or North Carolina?  Perhaps you can find it useful for stimulating thought, or jump-starting a debate in your classrooms.

I feel, in the context of today's news, that some of you may find this relevant, perhaps after the AP Human Geography Exams.

People often only focus on the racial aspect of educational inequality while often forgetting the gender side. The only reason people decide to get educated in the first place is to give them future career opportunities. Despite the fact that women in the United States might have the upper hand when getting educated, it is all ignored when they get to the real world. This issue is often thought of as a separate topic, but is actually very relevant to educational inequality.

Moving Beyond Pain

Fresh lemonade is my drink of choice. In my small Kentucky town, beautiful
black, brown, and white girls set up their lemonade stands and practice the
art of money making—it’s business.  As a grown black woman who believes in
the manifesto “Girl, get your money straight” my first response to
Beyoncé’s visual album, Lemonade, was WOW—this is the business of
capitalist money making at its best.
diane gusa's insight:
It is only as black women and all women resist patriarchal romanticization of domination in relationships can a healthy self-love emerge that allows every black female, and all females, to refuse to be a victim. Ultimately Lemonade glamorizes a world of gendered cultural paradox and contradiction.
