A pragmatist's view on politics

A pragmatist's view on politics | Society and politics | Scoop.it

by JOHN CASHON

I have always preferred progressive policies, and I disagree with nearly all of the views of the far right conservatives, but where I differ with some is how to proceed.

I see the division and partisanship as a destructive force that will only do further harm to our nation, and the only way forward is if some common ground can be found between the left and the right. It is true that there are some people that cannot be reached, but if some can be, I would consider it a win. At least it would be a starting point, and it would be a beginning for future dialog. Introducing THE 535 CAMPAIGN: Who in Congress Will Lead the Fight Against Corruption?

Introducing THE 535 CAMPAIGN: Who in Congress Will Lead the Fight Against Corruption? | Society and politics | Scoop.it

We are contacting our representatives in Washington and asking them, “Will you be a leader in the fight against the corruption of our Congress, or will you stand in the way?" Join us!

Called "The 535 Campaign," the Coffee Party is determined to track all 535 members of Congress to determine and publicize their position on Money in Politics.

Please join our networkof volunteers researching and contacting our U.S. Senators and our Representatives in the US:

If they don't have their plan to fix Citizens United posted on their web pages, we are asking them to get that taken care of, and keeping track of whether they do. This way, we'll know which members of Congress we'll need to replace in 2014. We'll call it "Adelson's List."

While there have been protests and other activities from the public in the aftermath of Citizens United — the Supreme Court's decree for unlimited, anonymous spending to influence our elections — most members of Congress have been silent. We the People will need to change that if we are going to make any real progress in protecting our right to self-governance.

That's why we are beginning a campaign to do just that. We are contacting our representatives in Washington and asking them, “Will you be a leader in the fight against the corruption of our Congress, or will you stand in the way?"

Money is truly the root of all evil, especially when coupled with politics.
