Shandra Woworuntu: My life as a sex-trafficking victim - BBC News | Society and behaviour | Scoop.it
Shandra Woworuntu hoped to start a new career in the US hotel industry, but instead she found herself in a world of sexual slavery, forced drug-taking and violence.
Kev Richards's insight:
Shandra Woworuntu: My life as a sex-trafficking victim. Amazing story happening right under the noses of the people who can stop it - in Indonesia. Unbelievably naive person coming from a corrupt country like Indonesia.

The extraordinary pictures show Joanna Dennehy, 31, who has admitted stabbing killing three and dumping their bodies in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and alleged conspirator Gary 'Stretch' Richards, 47.
Kev Richards's insight:
Watched a documentary about this creature with cctv footage. Scary psychopath. Motiveless crime. Locked up forever. People like her are flocking to ISIS. There is still no explanation as to why and how people become like this because the signs are not always apparent when they are young.

Can't get him to put the bins out? Sick of dragging him out of the pub? Count yourself lucky, ladies. A new book shows how you could have picked far worse a man.
Kev Richards's insight:

Truth is stranger than fiction! You couldn't make this up. Millionairess gets conned by lothario who pretend to be dying, marries him on his faked death bed, makes a miraculous recovery, soaks her for all she's got, beats her up, she eventually runs away, he kidnaps her etc etc. Apparently he was also an MP, no surprise.

Duke of Cambridge uses landmark TV appearance to urge Chinese people to stop buying products made from endangered species as he tells them 'rhino horn won't cure cancer'
Kev Richards's insight:

I am no royalist but at least they are speaking out against poaching in this broadcast on Chinese television.People tend to listen more when famous people talk. The opposite to some of their recent relatives who toured Africa in previous decades on killing holidays - they called it shooting parties or "Safari"! Nowadays it is well off dentists and the like who like to torture animals.

European Commission - PRESS RELEASES - Press release - Information from the European Commission on the latest draft proposals in the context of negotiations with Greece

Kev Richards's insight:

It reads like a Conservative Party manifesto - privatise everything, cut pensions, increase pension age, reduce state benefits, increase the cost of living via VAT, cut wages in the public sector and less contentiously - make people pay their taxes. it is a purely business view of a country, deeply insensitive to the needs or interests of the population, even if you assume that all the proposals are OK. It is a plan for big International business takeovers.

Modern Britain - too much time at work, plus getting to work, families dispersed because of work leading to dislocated "communities" which are not communities. No local town centres or events to bring people together.

Revealed: Adam Johnson was arrested for possession of animal porn | Society and behaviour | Scoop.it
Shocking details which could not be revealed during Johnson's trial can be reported today after he was given a six-year sentence at Bradford Crown Court.
Kev Richards's insight:
Adam Johnson would have been better employed robbing a bank and stealing millions and would get 7 or 8 years at most, as the recent Hatton Garden robbers got. Or robbing OAPs handbags as I saw today on tv and leaving them afraid to go out. Now that really does cause psychological damage. Suspended sentence, sometimes prison depending on form. A real paedophile was given a suspended 20 month!! sentence for a crime against a 9 year old here in Newcastle!! What the f...Or you can kill a car passenger while drunk and driving and leave your own injured daughter to die and get 4 years (He had previous convictions for drink-driving and driving while disqualified). None of these cases has had the publicity that celebrity crimes have had or similar sentences. There is an obsession with celebrity crime that artificially magnifies the incident to proportions far bigger than they deserve while really serious crimes with weird sentencing go unnoticed. The psychological profiles I am reading and hearing on the news does not bear much relationship to real people. Like 15 year olds are not sexual or interested in sex just at the age when they are. Everybody is determined to find a child scarred for life no matter if she freely participated. It is all a long way from coercion, threats and real abuse. Such people should be permanently locked up. Is the family really happy that he should spend 7 years in jail while really nasty people doing far more damage will get less.

10 great films set in the swinging 60s | Society and behaviour | Scoop.it
It’s 50 years since the Beatles movie A Hard Day’s Night helped put a swing in the step of 60s British cinema, heralding London’s emergence as the epicentre of hip fashion, art and music. Here are 10 of the best swinging London films that followed in its wake.
Kev Richards's insight:

In the 60s there was an explosion of creativity and not least in the UK with some seminal social comment films and classic tv series like The Avengers. Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and Room at the Top are good adult ones reflecting the changing times.

Bible Gateway passage: 1 Samuel 15 - New International Version

Bible Gateway passage: 1 Samuel 15 - New International Version | Society and behaviour | Scoop.it
1 Samuel 15
Kev Richards's insight:

The Old Testament is not a source of moral guidance that anyone in their right mind could follow unless you were in the the BC period of history. God apparently wanted the total destruction of the enemies of Israel on many occasions and by destruction he meant every living thing. There is nothing like that in the Koran as far as I know.

Deuteronomy 20

And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

Tuskegee syphilis experiment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tuskegee syphilis experiment

The Tuskegee syphilis experiment (/tʌsˈkiːɡiː/) was an infamous clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 by the U.S. Public Health Service to study the natural progression of untreated syphilis in rural African-American men in Alabama. They were told that they were receiving free health care from the U.S. government.

Kev Richards's insight:

Scientists and doctors are not always as trustworthy or as ethical as we like to think. There is a long history of such behaviour towards the unfortunate and vulnerable.
