Una historia de amor #SCEUNED16 #MRS_2016

Curiosity Magazine's curator insight, January 15, 2013 6:30 AM

Digital Education Inside and Outside of the Classroom

Digital Education Inside and Outside of the Classroom | Educación en Red | Scoop.it

As the classroom shifts from a teacher-centered model–where the teacher was the sole holder and diffuser of knowledge–to a student-centered model–where students seek out knowledge more independently, with a teacher acting as a guide–it’s important to understand what technology is in the classroom, how it’s being used, and what key stakeholders think of the technological advances.

The article exposes seven ways in which feedback is reflect as an encouraging and constructive technic, showing how to avoid misinterpretations as judgement and criticism. Some ways are: the first step, is about not overusing compliments or corrections and more about finding the right time to give general feedback; the next ways are to be specific and do not compare, since each student is different is important not to generalize. In conclusion the seven ways are about finding the right time and right way to correct our students as individuals who made a mistake which can be improve.

http://sociedad.elpais.com/sociedad/2011/05/12/actualidad/1305151203_850215.html

11 reasons why teachers don't use technology

11 reasons why teachers don't use technology | Educación en Red | Scoop.it

Studying With Quizzes Helps Make Sure the Material Sticks

Studying With Quizzes Helps Make Sure the Material Sticks | Educación en Red | Scoop.it

This phenomenon — testing yourself on an idea or concept to help you remember it — is called the “testing effect” or “retrieval practice.” People have known about the idea for centuries. Sir Francis Bacon mentioned it, as did the psychologist William James. In 350 BCE, Aristotle wrote that “exercise in repeatedly recalling a thing strengthens the memory.”

But the testing effect had been mostly overlooked in recent years. “What psychologists interested in learning and memory have always emphasized is the acquisition part. The taking [information] in and getting it into memory,” Roediger said.

Laypeople — and even experts — tend to think of human memory as a box to be packed with information.

“Memory is dynamic, and it keeps changing,” McDaniel said. “And retrieval helps it change.”

I recently presented at EduTECH Asia, Singapore, concerning the power of recall-based learning. Essentially, get the information once (encode-learning), then test yourself repeatedly. The 60+ studies and meta-studies that I examined in preparation for my presentation all tell the same story. Recall-based learning (quizzing) is at least 400% more effective than re-studying in the traditional way. the keys are:
1. frequent quizzes
2. low-stakes quizzes
3. Immediate feedback
4. Interleaved quizzing (quizzing over time, and across units)
5. Pre- and Post-summative assessment reflection
