Quick Guide to Making your Website Social Media Friendly | Velocity Digital Blog

Quick Guide to Making your Website Social Media Friendly | Velocity Digital Blog | Social zoo | Scoop.it
This posts gives advice on ensuring your website is cleverly integrated with social media technology and platforms. Handy for all marketers! Excerpt... I’m often asked by clients to work with their web designers/developers to ensure their new website is going to be built and presented in a way that ensures social media tech plays a part in the user’s experience. Usually I’m asked to do this after jumping up and down a lot and ramming home the importance of thinking social when it comes to websites! It’s very important that social is taken into consideration at a very early stage of any web build or revamp. Read on for some tips on making your site more social media friendly.Create a social media widgetCreate a content hubSharing is caring: There are a lot of off-the-shelf options out there, but I would recommend ‘hard-coding’ share buttons, this tends to allow you to mould them to fit better with your site design. Tech blog, The Next Web does this very well.

All things in eModeration: Moderating Class Blogs and Facebook Student Groups

All things in eModeration: Moderating Class Blogs and Facebook Student Groups | Social zoo | Scoop.it

Moderation involves students’ participation to online communities and this is something that only you can encourage no matter how powerful a tool is. If participation is optional not all students are likely to contribute. On the other hand, if it is mandatory or marked it might feel like another task that needs to be done. It would be better to integrate it into your course so that students perceive it as an essential part of their learning. For example, you might start a discussion in class that could be continued online; or instead of asking them to write an essay, you could post a relevant video, ask them to discuss it with classmates online and then write something on this.

Why Schools Must Move Beyond One-to-One Computing

Why Schools Must Move Beyond One-to-One Computing | Social zoo | Scoop.it

As many schools and districts are now rushing to buy every student a digital device, I’m concerned that most one-to-one implementation strategies are based on the new tool as the focus of the program. Unless we break out of this limited vision that one-to-one computing is about the device, we are doomed to waste our resources.

(From the article): I'd like the sense that someone of taste and discretion and experience has already whittled down the choices. (That's the problem with search engines, by the way - no taste!) The world needs editing - and yes, I use that word advisedly. Give me the cheeses that matter, offer me a wine list that's manageable. And put all the information that's raining down on us from cyberspace in a convenient, easy-to-handle form. Sorry, I never intended to be a defence of newspapers!

Andreas Kuswara's comment, June 11, 2013 6:22 PM
I supposed twitter can be used or any tool can be used for anything,but some tools are made with certain intended affordance by the creator that would make the tool less effective for certain functions. curation in a way is capturing things void of time (i probably drawing too much from museum), while twitter is fast pace timeline of interactive (or one way) discourse.... they seems to be inherently different.

i'm just automatically sceptical when 'one tool can be use for all' theme appear. but it is an interesting suggestion.
Bonnie Bracey Sutton's comment, June 11, 2013 6:33 PM
Many people learn one tool and then move on to others. I like to analyze each and use the best features of that particular 2.0 project. I use twitter as a push tool to share info for the most part.

Why Content Curation and Crowdsourcing Will Change Everything

Why Content Curation and Crowdsourcing Will Change Everything | Social zoo | Scoop.it

From the original article by Tom George on his "Internet Billboards".
Here are some interesting excerpts from the post about content curation.
"After having spent the better part of four years curating content from renowned bloggers, journalists and authors as well as building a platform here on Internet Billboards, which has evolved into a wonderful community of content curator’s.

Here is my definition of content curation. A content curator is someone who finds, organizes, presents and shares valuable information (content) in many forms, on a specific topic, in a way that provides special context and or a unique engagement with his or her readers. In actuality when done correctly, over time it positions the curator as an expert in his or her respective field and defines their reputation as a thought leader.

A good curator will mix curation with his or her own original content, to give interpretations for the express purpose of allowing others to form their own conclusions.
...
Why curation and crowdsourcing will and should become more important to you. I will give you ten reasons.
1. There is just too much content;
2. Social Sites Are Full Of Spam;
3. Privacy concerns with big data;
4. Limiting risk and using many minds;
5. Technology must assist us and help us not hinder us;
6. People Will recognize the need to build meaningful relationships;
7. Information will flow freely;
8. Trust and authority will be the new currency;
9. Curation helps you establish relationships with thought leaders;
10. Crowd Sourcing can make things possible..."

The article is discussed with more information. Read full original post here:
