The Internet's Original Sin

The Internet's Original Sin | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
It's not too late to ditch the ad-based business model and build a better web.
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

I have to laugh somewhat sarcastically at the "we screwed up pretty badly the first time around" comment regarding decisions that lead to the original creation of the first wave of consumer data tracking.

It probably was an inevitable creation though - and that's what makes this post particularly fascinating.

Twitter's IPO Is More Proof That Tech Is In A Massive Bubble

Twitter's IPO Is More Proof That Tech Is In A Massive Bubble | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
Twitter's frothy IPO should end all doubts about Tech Bubble 2.0's existence.
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

Is the successful Twitter IPO proof of a massive tech bubble looming... which could leave investors losing their shirts... or just a natural evolution of these social media giants? Windows 8.1: a first look at what Microsoft is changing

Windows 8.1: a first look at what Microsoft is changing | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it

Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

I really enjoy my Win8 touch screen laptop. Version 8.1, a free upgrade, will fix the biggest annoyances. This should smooth the waters. Win 8 is basically Win7 plus the "metro" stuff supplemental but the desktop acts mostly like Win7 and runs almost all of your Win7 apps just fine.

Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping

Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
From now on, Gmail users no longer have the option of using more insecure HTTP connections.
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:
Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping
Rather than charge NSA for access to your account - thus making money - as Microsoft does of your hotmail accounts... Google has taken a move to head off the NSA by applying default encryption to all gmail accounts.*

Gmail HTTPS has been an option for several years but now there is no longer an option to turn it off.

In addition to the data being encrypted when it travels from Google to you... the data is now also encrypted as it travels between Google's servers... putting a serious wrench in the NSA's eavesdropping plans.

You don't need to do anything or make any changes, to benefit from this move by Google to protect you.

Well Played, Google... well played!
