In what is widely considered to be one of the most restrictive laws on the planet dealing with commercial electronic messages, most of Canada’s long-awaited anti-spam legislation will take effect on July 1, 2014 (“CASL”).

Nations with a free trade agreement with Canada, which includes the United States, will need to pay attention to compliance with this one. 

I'm not a lawyer but as far as I can tell there is no good way around this. Even explicitly blocking Canadian traffic would not stop an auto-fill bot from throwing one of those addresses in your email autoresponder. 

What this law does is remove many of the "loopholes" that businesses have been using/abusing, that exist in the CAN-SPAM act, aka "The You Can Spam Act". 

When in doubt, consult a lawyer.
