Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping

Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
From now on, Gmail users no longer have the option of using more insecure HTTP connections.
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:
Google Encrypts All Gmail Messages After NSA Snooping
Rather than charge NSA for access to your account - thus making money - as Microsoft does of your hotmail accounts... Google has taken a move to head off the NSA by applying default encryption to all gmail accounts.*

Gmail HTTPS has been an option for several years but now there is no longer an option to turn it off.

In addition to the data being encrypted when it travels from Google to you... the data is now also encrypted as it travels between Google's servers... putting a serious wrench in the NSA's eavesdropping plans.

You don't need to do anything or make any changes, to benefit from this move by Google to protect you.

Well Played, Google... well played!

So long Google Reader, So Long Google Currents, So Long Play Magazines .... Introducing, Google Newstand!

"Google revealed plans to launch a new online marketplace for magazines and newspapers known as Google Newsstand, which will combine elements of Currents and the Magazines section of Google Play, enabling Android users to download free and premium content from hundreds of publishers within a single app."

My thoughts?: It's certainly no Reader... and not even as streamlined as Google Currents. Although if you're a publisher of periodicals you're going to enjoy the work Google is doing attempting to get phone owners used to the idea of buying subscriptions. #AskKim

Why Schema.org is Crucial to WordPress | @thetorquemag | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
Schema.org is crucial for you to implement on your WordPress site because it makes it easier for web bots and spiders, like the ones I build, to understand the content they are crawling.

Schema is the name of the game when it comes to optimizing a WordPress website for both social and SEO these days. Since the arrival of Penguin, schema markup is what sites want to be able to identify our content as being of a certain type. Google Analytics Hit Limits: When 10 Million Suddenly Seems Like a Small Number - SwellPath

Google Analytics Hit Limits: When 10 Million Suddenly Seems Like a Small Number - SwellPath | Digital & Internet Marketing News | Scoop.it
Over the past year or so, we’ve seen even more of our clients (old and new) hit various limits in Google Analytics. One of those is the 10 million hit limit. I’m going to cover briefly what a “hit” is...
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

Did you know that Google Analytics has limits? Interesting ones in fact! Not something for a small blog to worry about but certainly something larger company sites and launch platform sites need to be aware of!  More commonly though, smaller sites can still get in trouble with the hits counter because they choose to monitor a ton of events which each also generate hits and so send the values unusually high earlier than you might expect. Interesting post!

Authorship as we know it is changing... and it's probably for the better.  I still suggest adding your authorship tags though as it will will help make sure that Google DOES have that data.
