Apple iOS apps can be permanently altered to send their content calls to malicious servers, Israeli researchers have found.

Vulnerabilities in Apple's iOS apps have surprisingly proven vulnerable to a common attack type that can happen if you take advantage of an open (non-password-protected) WiFi connection. 
This attack is similar to a "man in the middle" attack, this attack would let the data come from fake sites and result in not only a compromise of usernames/ passwords but likely a spamming with adware/malware ads as well. iOS is not alone in this vulnerability as most devices including Android that are not using a VPN could be similarly compromised by an open WiFi connection.
