Jessica Kelly's insight:

Great opening:

Five Compelling Social Apps | Social Media Today

Five Compelling Social Apps | Social Media Today | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
There are a number of applications I use every day, as well as several I have played with, that I thought I would share with you today. I have paid for some of these apps, and others compel me but I don’t really have a use for them yet; that said, I keep on returning to them.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

These are the five, and he's right, they *are* compelling:

* Circloscope for G+

* FullContact

* Scrubly

* Buffer

* GaggleAMP

Most CEOs Still Don’t Get Social Media | CIO | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
Social media participation among the world’s leading CEOs is inching upward, but the overall level of activity is still surprising low. Almost seven out of every 10 Fortune 500 CEOs have no social media presence at all.

Unfortunately, it still seems to hold that the higher up you look, the less understanding you'll find in terms of current trends, technology, etc.

Social Network Features You Need to Stop Ignoring | Hootsuite

Social Network Features You Need to Stop Ignoring | Hootsuite | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
Learn about often-ignored features of major social networks, and how you can use them to actually benefit your social media efforts.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

Feeling a bit burned out today on lists of best tools, new features, and obvious best practices? Yeah, me too -- same old. This post, however, is different. These aren't new features, and their best use may not be so obvious. Some food for thought on TW and FB:

> What will we do if our Twitter Favorites go live to follower feeds? Will we start curating them compulsively?

> Why don't people use Facebook lists, either the FB-defined "Interest" kind or lists of their own creation? Why would anyone let FB pick what they see in their feeds? This is always mind-boggling to me, and so I'm very happy to see the list suggestion here.

Google Abandons Forced-Sign-Up Policy for GooglePlus | SiliconANGLE

Google Abandons Forced-Sign-Up Policy for GooglePlus | SiliconANGLE | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it

"Google seems to have relented on its tough policy towards its not-so-popular socila network..."

Jessica Kelly's insight:

Key takeaways:

"This could be a sign of Google+’s lingering death..."

OK, but I'm skeptical simply b/c we've heard that so many times before.

"When Google first began this policy it was understandable--with most people content with Facebook and other social networks, it had to do something to get people using its platform."
Sure, or they could have tried creating something people would *want* to join.

"We should note Google+ hasn’t been totally banished. Users are free to avoid it, but those wishing to leave app reviews or upload videos to YouTube will still need an account..."
Ah, so they're still not quite confident in the quality of G+, right?

Facebook Takes Another Tip from Twitter and Pushes Trendy Topics | ReadWrite

Facebook Takes Another Tip from Twitter and Pushes Trendy Topics | ReadWrite | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
New updates make timeliness matter.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

This change has received a lot of coverage, but I think this is the most succinct report. I would add that FB's latest tweak may lead to annoying behavior from page admins, who may start to include trending content that's totally irrelevant to their organization (or their followers' interests). Me, I'm still all about using my own FB lists in chron order, and I'm always amazed that people allow FB to decide what they see and when. And in case you're wondering, nope, I don't watch TV, either. ;)

more...
Evan Louis's curator insight, September 22, 6:57 PM

This article is discussing how Facebook is evolving to use similar aspects to twitter. This means that they are starting to code their news feeds to show trending topics more and make pivotal issues more in the focus of the website as opposed to strictly stories about what their friends are doing. This shows how they are evolving to make their media source more marketable and relevant.

Facebook Prompting Users Who Likes Posts Where Pages Are Tagged to Like Those Pages, Too | AllFacebook

Facebook Prompting Users Who Likes Posts Where Pages Are Tagged to Like Those Pages, Too | AllFacebook | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
Facebook appears to be testing another way to promote engagement with pages, as some users who like posts in which pages are tagged are seeing related content modules suggesting that they like the tagged pages.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

Wow, that title's a mouthful, but it's interesting to see this. It's nice that tagged pages may get the extra bump, but what I'd REALLY like to see is FB alerting admins whenever their pages are tagged/liked by other pages -- would do much to make pages truly social and enable some interesting reciprocal activity.

There Is a New Social Network and You’re Most Likely Too Poor to Be a Part of It | NextShark

There Is a New Social Network and You’re Most Likely Too Poor to Be a Part of It | NextShark | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
A Facebook for the financial elite is finally here. For any of you rich folk who are tired of having to connect with us mortals on social media, you now have a support group to voice all of your First…
Jessica Kelly's insight:

I'm so glad I finally have a safe social space where I can discuss important things with my social equals, like how to manipulate markets and elections, where next to exploit resources, advances in spirit-aerator technology, and which dog breeds are trending. Whatever it is, Netropolitan deserves my hard-earned fortune.

Alaina Es's curator insight, September 16, 11:03 PM

Who would have imagined that the 1% would find yet another way to differentiate themselves from “us mortals”. It was just launched today so I am interested to see how well this “elite” version of social media pans out. The only criteria to join are that you have to be at least 21, pay an upfront fee of $9000 followed by a $3,000-a-year membership. Not only is this newest extension of Facebook pretentious, it is also unnecessary.  This is nothing different than joining a country club except they can bond online instead of through personal interaction. It’s a way for people with money and similar interests to bond over money and what they are able to spend it on. It brings people with similar values together as Facebook has, however, there is no differentiation on other services it provides except for the people have to have to money to be a part of it and there are not advertisements because they’re going to spend their money on much more expensive things than what the typical Facebook ads are offering.
