Facebook “Likes” Know Your Personality Better Than Your Family Does | SiliconANGLE

Facebook “Likes” Know Your Personality Better Than Your Family Does | SiliconANGLE | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it

"A 'like' here and there for your favorite movie or a local restaurant you enjoy visiting might not seem like much information go on, but according to a new study, Facebook “likes” can tell just about all there is to know about your personality."

Jessica Kelly's insight:

I tried to run the free analysis, but apparently the tool's down for maintenance. I'm curious to see what it says, but I wouldn't be surprised if FB *does* know me pretty well -- not better than my *immediate* family, but certainly better than the extended clan. Also curious to see what evil marketers will get up to with tools like this. :>

Three Social Media Myths We Need to Squash in 2015 | Social Media Today

Three Social Media Myths We Need to Squash in 2015 | Social Media Today | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
There’s a lot of social media advice floating around these days. I’m sure it would stretch to the moon and back several times, even if you wrote it all down in a teeny, tiny font. Some of it’s useful, grounded in solid marketing and business strategy. The rest of it? Meh.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

What are these myths?

#1. Your brand must be on Twitter.

#2. You can't measure social.

#3. Your audience isn't on social.

So *you* already know these statements are silly -- but you *also* know there's someone at work who still believes them. This article provides good info to get you started on your myth busting!

Social Media Update 2014 | Pew Research Internet Project

Social Media Update 2014 | Pew Research Internet Project | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
While Facebook remains the most popular social media site, other platforms — like LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter — saw higher rates of growth over the past year. In 2014, 52% of online adults used two or more social media sites, up from 42% in 2013.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

So in a nutshell, FB growth has slowed, but user engagement has grown. Conversely, other platforms (LI, Pin, Insta, Tw) show more growth but stagnant engagement numbers. Me, I'd rather see engagement -- basic body counts aren't terribly meaningful.

Social Media over the Holidays: Five Tips to Manage Your Brand | TechRepublic

Social Media over the Holidays: Five Tips to Manage Your Brand | TechRepublic | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
Very little is 'business as usual' during the holidays. Here's how your brand can continue to thrive on social media this December.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

Good advice here, especially about *not* just setting and ignoring scheduled posts. Few people will want to click on news that you erroneously thought would be relevant over the break, and no one wants to follow links that have broken since you set them. I'd also add that it's really bad form (especially for global brands) to post about U.S.-centric or religious-focused holidays -- I'm consistently surprised by how many brands (or their comm teams) don't think this through, as this can be pretty alienating (and even offensive) to readers.

Not referencing sources? Not proofreading before publishing? These are missteps that go far beyond style. Up-level your skills or engage a pro. Otherwise, your content's credibility is sunk.

Does Facebook Want Brands to Take Their Business Elsewhere in 2015? | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it

"In mid-November, Facebook announced it would be 'reducing overly promotional page posts in news feeds' starting in January. This seems to be just another step toward removing brands from the world's largest social network..."

Brad Friedman discusses FB's current "anti-" stance on brand promotions, including FB's reasoning ("keeping the customer happy"), some examples of overly hype-y posts, and a reminder that while the new rules may lead to better content from brand pages, the bottom line is that brands will need to fork over more advertising dollars if they want higher visibility on FB.
